Manchester City again scores early, but no flurry of goals follows, as City outlast Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in the third meeting between the two sides in 11 days.
We all knew the follow-up match between Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur would have a hard time living up to the drama and excitement of Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League affair. In the end the result on the night was the same, but the results for the bigger picture for both sides could not be more different.

Although City won the thrilling Champions League match on the night 4-3, by virtue of the 1-0 Tottenham had won the leg before and Spurs away goals, Tottenham Hotspur advanced on the 4-4 aggregate. This sent City crashing out of the Champions League and Tottenham through to the semi-finals. Elation for Spurs fans agony for the Citizens.
Today, we had the same result on the day a one-goal City victory, but the end cost may be even more damning for Spurs. City regained first place and continue to know, if they win out, they win the League and become the first repeat Premier League Champions in this DECADE. For Spurs the consequences may be more dire.

As of writing this Tottenham still sit in third place in the League standings. However, by the time the squad play again – in just three days home against Brighton – Spurs may be in 5th place ahead of 6th only on goal difference. Yes, a win over Brighton puts Spurs back in the top 4, but at this point, any more lost points and the only route to NEXT YEAR’S UCL may be winning the whole thing this year for Spurs.
