Tottenham have joined Arsenal in the race for Ajax’s current left-back as a possible replacement for Danny Rose in the summer.

There are no players in the world who are more in Vogue than Ajax’s current stars.  Their humbling of Real Madrid in the Champions League seemed to clear up any questions that people might have had about their potential and what they could achieve.  That is why it seems every single major side in Europe is now targeting one of Ajax’s players to fill a potential whole in the team.  Tottenham and Arsenal have found their target and it appears that it will be a race between the two come the summer.

Nicolas Tagliafico was one of the star performers of that now famous night at the Bernabeau and seems like a player who could be a perfect fit for Tottenham.  Given that Spurs don’t have a great solution to the Danny Rose issue at left back this is a perfect move for the club.  Given Rose’s attitude and commitment have placed him both in and out of the club and seem to waver with whichever way the wind blows it is justifiable that Tottenham would be looking for another recruit.   If you factor in the fact that Danny Rose is also 28 at the moment and will be 29 before the new season starts it makes sense that Pochettino would look to bed another player into the squad in that position.

Even better is that Tagliafico appears to be a remarkable player.  Gifted with a high degree of pace and technical ability he seems perfectly suited to Tottenham’s style of football.  The only question that people could have brought to the table in regards to his play is that he plays in the Eredivisie which is a far simpler, smoother and frankly gentler league than the Premier League.

Though the times may be changing in regards to attackers and what is expected of them physically defending in the Premier League is still measured in sweat, blood and tears.  The performances in the Champions League will have gone a long way toward answering those questions but it remains reasonable that they are asked.

Tottenham are these days easily the more desirable club to play for.  They are more competitive than Arsenal and are consistently in the Champions League.  If the fee for his transfer isn’t too high this is exactly the sort of move that the new Tottenham should be making.  The only question as always with Spurs is how competitive the wages they offer will be.

After-all Mesut Oil gets paid at Arsenal so it’s obvious they’re willing to pay for anything.  That said if Nicolas Tagliafico puts football first then Tottenham are the right destination and for the first time in a long time the finances shouldn’t hold this back.
