Tottenham Hotspur are looking to make five additions to the match day squad in a move that will offset some of the major expected losses.

Tottenham Hotspur are planning big changes for this summer.  It is not just that the club will finally be in their new home.  The club is seeking to add up to five players to the current squad in an aggressive summer recruitment plan to make up for the previous transfer windows and give Mauricio Pochettino more power with which to continue his fight for a historic title at Tottenham.

The bad news however is that the club is resigned to the loss of both Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld in the summer.  With those two leaving it’s inarguable that Tottenham will lose a large level of quality out of the match day squad.  The good news is that the signings that the club is looking to add are of an incredible quality as well and will allow Pochettino several options with which to change his formation and be more mobile with his choices during the season.

If the rumors are correct then reports suggest Tottenham will be adding Jack Grealish from Aston Villa, Carlos Soler from Valencia, Aleksander Mitrovic from Fulham and Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace.  That is a huge level of quality to add to the team.  It will also make the formation that Tottenham start in every week far less predictable than it is usually.

With the additional help up top for Harry Kane he will likely become even more of a goal threat.  One of the major issues at the moment is Kane spends an incredible amount of time doing the dirty work and hard yards for the team when he should be conserving energy for the final third.  Mitrovic would be a perfect strike partner for him.

That then followed by the added creative impetus of not just Grealish but Wilfried Zaha, who is one of the most creative and dangerous attacking players in the Premier League, and the team is in a very different way at the beginning of next season to the end of this one.

Finally the addition of Carlos Soler adds the stability the the midfield that has been talked about on this site on several occasions this year.  The midfield needs an addition of steel but without sacrificing passing ability and intelligence.  Carlos Soler fits that mould perfectly.

If Daniel Levy can get all of these deals over the line then it is exactly what Spurs need.  Too often towards the end of this season the team have been found wanting on the pitch when they were so close to something wonderful.  The chairman needs to reward those efforts and the ability of the squad by giving them something to work with other than sweat, tears and promises.

This would be a phenomenal bit of business to do.  He should just make sure that he gets it done as soon as possible so Pochettino can get them ingratiated into the squad as soon as is humanly possible.
