Proven as one of the top defensive midfielders in the world after success with Stoke City, Sevilla and France, Nzonzi is now a target to return to the Premier League with Spurs.

Nzonzi first came to England back in 2009 as a member of Blackburn Rovers. He was a key member of their side before switching to Stoke City once Rovers were relegated. From there he became a starter and in total made 195 league appearances spread across both clubs. Nzonzi was also awarded Stoke’s Player of Year award for the 2014-2015 season.

in 2015 he moved to Sevilla where he really began to make a name for himself, helping the Spanish side win the UEFA Europa League. Now at Roma, Nzonzi remains a very talented player and could be a a strong signing for the depleted Tottenham midfield.

However, his transfer to Italy only took place this summer and it was not for a low fee. He is the type of player that will command a decent amount of money to acquire and at 30 years old, Nzonzi may be outside of the recruiting model at Spurs.

Tottenham need another defensive midfielder for next season to partner with Harry Winks. Winks has more than proved his ability and should be a mainstay for Spurs for many seasons to come. Winks is great at recycling the ball and pressing, but a tough tackler is needed, like Nzonzi.

If Tottenham can pull off this signing, Nzonzi can have an effect like that of Fernandinho at Manchester City. By having a solid anchor to build off of in Fernandinho, City’s other midfielders are able to freely pass and move around. Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama are simply not at that level of ability for Spurs.

While Nzonzi would be a fanstastic signing, this is still a huge rumor and should not be taken too seriously. Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to sign a new midfield player this summer but from where is uncertain. One key upgrade could help propel Spurs to the title and the club should not be scared of too high a price if the team can be improved.
