Having just turned 17 on Monday, Irish youth international Troy Parrott put pen to paper and signed his first true professional contract with Tottenham.

Highly rated in the Spurs academy and the Irish youth setup alike, Parrott has been an efficient scorer thus far. This term he’s managed 14 goals across 21 matches, including 11 in the U18 Premier League.

While proving himself in the academy, many supporters have begun to take notice. With Harry Kane still out injured there are those who want to see Parrott involved more with the first team. The Ireland youth international has already been training with the rest of the squad. While this is promising, he is simply not ready to make a huge impact in the league. Everyone wants to see another great prospect break out, but Spurs must be careful and manage Parrott well.

Parrott posted on his Twitter and Instagram to commemorate him signing as well as his birthday.

He is certainly an exciting player and is definitely the one to watch currently in the Tottenham youth team. After losing players such as Reo Griffiths and Keanan Bennetts last summer, Spurs will want to keep Parrott closer to the first team and give him his chance when he deserves it. These were also highly rated players but the club but unfortunately took their talents overseas. However, Parrott seems intent on making his name in the team.

Tottenham have had longstanding problems with securing a backup to Kane, bringing in players like Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen. While Llorente gives the effort, he lacks product and Janssen was recently banished and brought back into the team. Perhaps soon, this question can be answered right out of the academy.

For now, Parrott must keep his head down and work hard. Tottenham have a manager who rewards those that do and will give the Irish striker an opportunity if he can. While he may not show up in a match this season, look for Parrott to be a shoe-in for a preseason tournament.
