Christian Eriksen is one of the best players in Tottenham’s first 11 and one of the most desirable players in Europe.  That is why Levy must solve the lingering issues surrounding him at the club.

Christian Eriksen’s contract is going to expire in June 2020.  He is now in the part of his contract that becomes the most dangerous for a club because very soon he will hold all of the power around the negotiations.  With his contract status seemingly becoming an ever louder silent problem at Tottenham it has now started to possibly effect his form.

It only takes a few moments reading surrounding the player and Tottenham on Twitter to realize that the fans have already started to become worried about the issue and they probably should be.  It appears that Eriksen, who is such an integral part of the team, has had his head turned or is at the very least distracted by the fervor surrounding his future.

Originally it was suggested that only Real Madrid were interested in the player.  That’s a pretty loud rumor given that Luka Modric and Gareth Bale have blazed the trail for that specific London to Madrid pathway and shown what a success it could be.  There’s not a single player in the world who doesn’t have their head turned at the possibility of that.  Then if you add in Juventus who are rumored to be in the same position and the possibility of joining the most dominant side in European football for the past 7 years as well as playing with Cristiano Ronaldo it gets even worse.  Now if you add in that Manchester United and Chelsea are looking at the possibility of adding the player it reaches fever pitch.

There’s no way Eriksen isn’t thinking about it. That’s the problem and that’s why his performances have slipped recently.

It is less than 12 months now before he can simply agree to join a team in a foreign country for free.  How could he not?  He’s human and it’s already been suggested that he’s not happy with his contract.

Daniel Levy needs to solve the issue with Eriksen’s contract before the end of the year or sell him during the summer transfer window when his fee would be the highest.  It would be awful to lose Eriksen.  He’s one of the best and most technically efficient and talented players in Europe. That said what would be even worse would be to lose him for free and get nothing for him.  Tottenham are, as Mauricio Pochettino took the pleasure of pointing out, not on solid enough financial footing to lose out on the opportunity for a 100 million + payday.  They just aren’t.

Solving the future of Christian Eriksen now that they haven’t signed a single player is one of the most important things that the club can possibly do.  Getting a new contract signed would be the equivalent of 3 new signing in what it would mean to the club and their status as new European heavyweights seeing off Real Madrid, Manchester United and Juventus and selling him would also give Pochettino enough money to actually build the squad how he wants which might help see off United’s advances for him as well.

The only thing Tottenham simply can’t do is nothing which is scary because it seems to be the only thing they did for all of January.
