Diogo Jota of Wolverhampton Wanderers has not travelled with his team to Wembley to face Tottenham Hotspur. This is according to his manager. Jota is an integral part of the Wolves attack.
Wolverhampton manager Nuno Espirito Santo stated that Diogo Jota will not face Tottenham for their visit on Saturday afternoon. Nuno gave the news at a pre-match press conference for the Premier League contest.
Nuno stated of Jota that ‘He’s not 100 percent, so he does not travel.’ The manager gave the update after the forward had missed Wolves’ last two matches with a thigh injury. These were against Liverpool and Fulham.
While this is bad news for Wolverhampton fans, Nuno did say that the injury is not serious. This indicates that Jota could be back for the match against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
Even with the injury, Nuno had some things to say about Tottenham at the press conference. He said he liked to watch Spurs play and reciprocated the praise he received from Pochettino. Still, the manager stated that Wolves are visiting Wembley to compete and will give a strong fight.
Jota’s absence will certainly increase Tottenham’s chances of coming away from the match with 3 points. While Jota’s Championship performance last season was more impressive than his performance so far in the Premier League, he is still an important part of the Wolves attack.
It is true that it took him quite a long time to produce just about anything in the Premier League. In his first 14 matches in the league, he had no goals and just one assist.
For some reason, though, when December rolled around Jota found impressive form. In the 3 matches he has played this month, he has 2 goals and 2 assists. If it wasn’t for the injury, Tottenham would be facing and in-form Diogo Jota, one that calls back to his incredible Championship season.
Still, Pochettino and Spurs will not have to worry about Jota. They will instead look to continue their own dominant form that has included 11 goals scored in their previous 2 matches.
