Villas-Boas still sour at Tottenham
By Zaph Hutson
Tottenham’s former manager- Andre Villas-Boas- is still holding a grudge against his previous team. According to him, the leadership was not flexible when it came to transfers. His opinion is also affecting his outlook for Tottenham vs Inter Milan.
The former Spurs boss recently let everyone know exactly how he feels about being let go back in 2013. He let it all out to the Italian press on Friday.
Initially, it seemed like Villas-Boas loved his time at Tottenham. This is especially true of the whole first season. He said “The first season was magnificent in all respects. We had a short team but good spirit and a lot of will.” He then went on to talk about the dangerous attack that included Gareth Bale, Aaron Lennon, Emmanuel Adebayor, and wing back Kyle Walker. He is right about that, what time that was.
However, according to Villas-Boas, it all changed in April of 2013. He said he “proposed purchases and sales, but the owners did not listen to (him)”. His words then get a little melodramatic. He goes on to say “in a short time everything we had created was destroyed.”
Apparently, finishing every season since then above another top-6 club qualifies as “destroyed.” All in all, it seems that Villas-Boas was not a good fit for Spurs. He only lasted a season and a half, he sold Gareth Bale-one of Tottenham’s greatest players- and the board was never quite in sync with him.
After a summer without a single transfer, it is now as clear as ever how Tottenham operate. They allow talent to grow without dropping massive amounts of cash willy-nilly. Maybe Villas-Boas would be more at home at Manchester United.
He finishes his chat with the Italian media by giving his thoughts on the upcoming Inter Milan game. “At Wembley, Tottenham will have control of the ball possession because it is a team that plays well and creates many chances but you will see that Inter will have chances to score especially on the break.”
The match will take place on the 28th of November. It is the second-to-last game of the Champions League group stage. In spite of Tottenham’s rough start to the campaign, a win here will bring them level with Inter.
