The news on Real Madrid’s latest moves will be music to any Tottenham supporter’s ears. They put to rest virtually any anxiety one could have about Pochettino leaving for Spain’s capital.

Since the beginning of the season, no rumor has worried Spurs fans more than Real Madrid’s interest in manager Mauricio Pochettino. This is even though the likes of Harry Kane and Christian Erisksen have also been on Real’s radar.

However, all things indicate that the Spanish giants have ended their interest in signing Pochettino.

Julen Lopetegui was named Real Madrid’s boss to start the season but they recently sacked him after his team’s poor performance. The club said enough was enough after a 5-1 loss to Barcelona. Lopetegui was fired the next day.

In many people’s eyes, this intensified Real’s interest in signing Pochettino. These fears didn’t go away when they

promoted Santiago Solari

as caretaker manager. According to the rules, he could only serve as manager for 14 days as in this position.

If there were any two weeks that Spurs fans should have thrown their support behind Real, it was these. Solari’s team surged during those weeks with wins in all four games. Because of this drastic turnaround of form, Solari went from interim coach to long-term manager.

Real showed their confidence in him by offering him a contract through 2021. To much the relief of Spurs fans, Solari accepted.

Real was the one team that seemed extremely likely to sign Pochettino soon. They wouldn’t have waited until January or this summer. They needed a new manager immediately. Thankfully, they found a capable one in Solari and Pochettino’s name will likely disappear from their minds.

Other developments earlier this year showed Pochettino’s allegiance to the club. Back in May, the Tottenham boss signed a £42.5 million contract that is good through 2023. This shows a mutual loyalty between Poch and Tottenham’s chairman, Daniel Levy.

When the contract was signed, Levy said:

"Mauricio has fostered an incredible spirit in the team and has embraced a style of play our fans have loved watching. I know they will welcome this commitment by Mauricio."

If both Poch and Levy get their way, Poch will be here for a long, long time.
