Report finds Spurs have high-value players
By Zaph Hutson
A research group found that Tottenham have some of the world’s most valuable footballers. Spurs players are among the highest rated forwards, center backs, and midfielders.
The study was done by The CIES Football Observatory. This is an independent research group in Switzerland that methodically rates players by value. According to their website, they are a “reference point in the demographic analysis of the football players’ labour market, the technical analysis of player performance and the scientific estimation of transfer values.”
The CIES recently released 5 lists. Each list takes a playing position and ranks the top ten players in each position.
At the top of the midfielders list, you will find our own Dele Alli. According to the study, Alli’s transfer value is €163m. He is followed- albiet from quite a distance- by de Bruyne, Pogba, and Kante.
Tottenham appreciates his worth and offered him a new contract in October. Alli accepted the offer, which included a pay raise and is good until 2024. Looking back at the list of midfielders, you will find another Spur in 5th place- Eric Dier.
Harry Kane is the second most valuable forward. He was passed up only this year by Kylian Mbappe, whose value rose by €23m since October. Kane is valued higher than Neymar, Salah, and Coutinho.
One pleasant surprise found in the study was that Davinson Sanchez is the second most valuable center back. Transfer value is affected greatly by age. Since Sanchez is only 22 years old, he is ahead of older players like Rudiger, van Dijk, and Laporte. Only Barcelona’s Umtiti is a more highly-valued center back.
Another Tottenham name you will see among the lists is Hugo Lloris. It is impressive that the aging Lloris is the 9th most-valued goalkeeper in the world. This is likely due to his play in the Premier League and his performance during the 2018 World Cup.
