Tottenham vs Inter Milan Analysis and Prediction
To open up their Champions League campaign with an away match against Inter Milan at the San Siro.
The Champions League welcomes back one of it’s more proud historical participants in Inter Milan this week. Tottenham will be the away team at the famed San Siro come Tuesday evening and in Inter Milan they have one of the toughest oppositions in this year’s competition.
Ultimately Tottenham are the better of the two teams on show tonight but they are in a bad place. Having played poorly against Liverpool and lost to Watford Spurs are in a bad way at the moment. There’s really no two ways about it. Against Liverpool, they looked tired, bereft of spirit and out of ideas. It is a big ask for them to go away to Milan in one of Europe’s most hostile environments on short rest and expect them to get a lot out of the match.
Inter themselves are resurgent this season despite losing a close nail biter to Parma over the weekend. The Italians haven’t gotten into flow yet but with a new squad that contains Radja Nainggolan, Mauro Icardi, Ivan Perisic and Stefan De Vrij they can’t be counted out, particularly at home.
This match has bore draw written all over it. Where Tottenham are the better team and still possess the better individual talents on show they are traveling, beaten and weary in recent times. Inter Milan have not gotten into a flow yet but are the home team and at some point, all their new pieces will meld properly. It won’t be this week but it will be soon.
The two teams could not have handled each of their particular summers differently but they both appear to be suffering from similar issues. If Tottenham can get a draw in the away fixture and lick their wounds in time for the match against Brighton on Saturday that is a good scenario for them. Tottenham need to recover their domestic form as soon as possible and getting some momentum with a draw will be an OK fixture.
Prediction is 1-1 or 0-0 draw. A defeat is disastrous and Tottenham should do whatever they can to make sure that doesn’t happen.
