Tottenham have joined the race for Manchester City, Barcelona and PSG target Frenkie De Jong.

Tottenham have gotten into the race for 40 million pound rated midfielder Frenkie De Jong by entering a bid for him ahead of their rivals.  Mauricio Pochettino is rumored to be a big fan of the midfielder and he would fit marvelously into Tottenham’s current team. With current Tottenham central midfielder Moussa Dembele already having one foot out the door it is a good sign for the Tottenham faithful that the North London club have their eyes on such a strong talent.

While Barcelona have agreed to a provisional deal with Ajax for the player nothing has been signed on paper.  It is also thought that the Ajax midfielder would get far more playing time with Tottenham and link up well fellow former Ajax player Christian Eriksen in the Tottenham midfield.

The Ajax school of football is renowned for it’s technically adept and attack-minded players and De Jong is no different.  His ability on the ball and footballing brain would be a perfect addition to Tottenham’s current squad.

It is rumored that the player has been identified by Pochettino himself as one of his most important targets and if that is true Tottenham should not rest until they can secure the player.  This is the level of talent that the Lillywhites should be chasing at all times.  The only thing that is putting Tottenham off a deal is that while Spurs would like to see the player in London in January De Jong would rather wait until the summer.  At that time the market will be much more expensive and full of suitors and Tottenham could miss out.

If the player has his heart set on a full season Tottenham could get a lead on their rivals by agreeing to a deal and loaning the player back to Ajax until the end of the season.  He will likely not be able to play in the Champions League anyway due to his involvement with Ajax.  Which means Tottenham would simply be getting a head start on next seasons preparations in which they’ll want to get off to a good start in their first full season in the new stadium. They should absolutely not waste any time in getting the deal over the line though as the suitors that the player has are all powerful and convincing.
