Should Spurs make a move for Newcastle’s star skipper?

Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles has been a stand out performer for Rafael Benitez’ magpies this season, and the £25million rated centre-back has been linked with a move away from St.James’ Park this summer.
Lascelles captained the Premier League newcomers to safety this season with five games to spare in a terrific debut campaign in the top flight.
It’s Everton however, who are reportedly the front-runners to capture the signature of the 24-year-old centre back with the Toffees ready to launch a £25million bid according to the Mirror.
The report also suggests that Spurs and Chelsea have been keeping a close eye on the talented youngster this season and are prepared to battle Premier League rivals for his services.

With fan favourite and centre-back Toby Alderweireld looking almost bound for an exit from Spurs, would Lascelles be a worthy replacement for the Belgian?
He’d undoubtedly be needed to boost the back line if Alderweireld’s inevitable departure occurs.
Pochettino and Spurs will surely be doing everything in their power, however, to keep Alderweireld at the club with the risk of losing him for a very modest fee.
In today’s market, £25million for Lascelles is nothing short of an absolute steal. At 24-years-old he’s already captained Newcastle to safety in his first Premier League season and has shown leadership qualities that any team would be enviable of.
So should Spurs make a move for Lascelles? If Alderweireld is to leave, then there’s no question about it.

Lascelles is young, talented and the exact kind of player who fits into the mould of the team Pochettino has been creating over the past four years.
If Everton were to land the Newcastle skipper, then it could prove to be a perfect opportunity missed for Spurs.
It’s not often a player of Lascelles age and talent to be available at such a reasonable price, and if he continues to perform the way he did this season, that price will only skyrocket.
