PremierLeague.com and most other media outlets credited Christian Eriksen with Tottenham’s second goal against Stoke on Saturday.

Harry Kane claims winning goal vs Stoke

But Harry Kane is not having it, saying the nicked off his shoulder on route to the back of the net.

His word on proceedings is good enough for me, as I’d suggest it is for most Spurs supporters. While it’s almost impossible on video replay to judge whether he got the decisive touch, it becomes a moot point after seeing the conviction with which Kane claimed the winner.

Whether the Premier League will take Harry’s word is another matter entirely. Let’s hope they do so Harry pulls a goal closer to Mo Salah with five matches to play. Salah, who PremierLeague.com has at five goals ahead of Kane, is the odds-on favourite to win the Golden Boot.

But we all know what happened with a few games left last season. Kane erupted and scored at will, leaving all challengers in his wake. If they eventually do credit Harry with the goal, he’ll be on 25, four behind Salah. Though it’s unlikely Kane will get his way on this one.

Jan the man

Jan Vertonghen is a consummate professional, a true ambassador of the sport. He’s been one of Tottenham’s most consistent performers in recent seasons. He has no distinct weaknesses. His performance level, whether he lines up beside Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld or Juan Foyth, remains consistently high, showing the true defining characteristics of a world-class centre back. He makes others around him player better, not the other way around.

Still unbeaten in 2018

Talk about a flawless year thus far, in the Premier League anyway. Spurs remain the only unbeaten team in the top flight since the turn of the new year, winning 11 of 14 matches. If the season was prolonged by a month or two, Spurs would have a great chance of reigning Manchester City in atop the table. If Spurs avoid defeat in their final five matches, they’ll enter the 2018-19 season on a 19-match unbeaten run.
