Alfie Mawson has been Swansea’s stand out star this season and has emerged as a target for Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs side when the transfer window re-opens this summer.

Mawson joined Swansea in 2016 from Barnsley for £6million, but it has been this season where the Englishman’s performances have caught the eye of some of the Premier League’s elite clubs.

And it has been these performances that have earned Mawson an England call-up for the two World Cup warm-up games against the Netherlands and Italy.

Next: Spurs to make move for Palace talisman

Pochettino got a first-hand look at Mawson this past weekend when his Spurs side comfortably beat Swansea 3-0 to book themselves an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United and according to The Sun he was very pleased with what he saw from the young centre-back despite the scoreline.

It wouldn’t be the first time Pochettino has looked into investing in some of the Premier Leagues finest and proven up and coming talent.

You only have to look at Kieran Trippier and Toby Alderweireld’s progression into two of the league’s top defenders to show that Pochettino knows precisely what he is doing.

More from Tottenham News

With Mawson’s reputation now growing and a possible place in the England World Cup squad, Spurs will in no doubt have to fork out a lot more than the £5million Swansea paid for the defender a few years ago.

Several other Premier League sides are said to be interested in signing up Mawson for the start of next season. However, Spurs are reportedly favourites to sign the young centre-back.

Mawson may be recruited by Spurs as a potential replacement for Toby Alderweireld who looks set to leave the North-London side at the end of the season.

It remains to be seen what kind of figures Tottenham would have to conjure up if they were to make a move for Mawson in the summer. However, Swansea will in no doubt be wanting a hefty fee for arguably their best player this season.
