Layvin Kurzawa: the answer to our left-back woes?
By Liam Thomas
At 25-years-old Layvin Kurzawa made Champions League history this year, becoming the first defender ever to score a hattrick in the competition.
If you hadn’t heard of the French international before this, then you certainly knew who he was now. However, Le Parisien claimed this week that the Paris Saint-Germain left-back is at the top of the list to be on his way out of the Parc des Princes this summer.
Kurzawa is currently in line to win his second French Ligue 1 title with the Parisien side, and despite being a regular in the team, reports suggest his place in the starting line-up is far from guaranteed for next season.
This was highlighted in PSG’s recent Champions League last-16 exit to Real Madrid, where Kurzawa was left out of the starting XI in the pivotal second-leg in favour of Spaniard Yuri Berchiche.
Now some of Europe’s elite clubs are on standby ready to pounce if the left-back becomes available when the transfer window re-opens, with Spurs reportedly paying extra attention to his situation with their current left-back woes.

Kurzawa’s inevitable availability will come as music to the ears of every Spurs fan who has had to endure the constant chopping and changing of our full-backs this campaign.
And with Danny Rose falling out of favour with Pochettino this year, Kurzawa would be more than a worthy replacement for the English international if he was to move on this summer.
Although Ben Davies has put in a right shift at left-back this season, bringing in a player who has won trophies and played for one of Europe’s biggest sides would be welcomed.
Kurzawa has played 24 times for the French league leaders so far this campaign, scoring five and assisting three times- a stat any midfielder would be proud of, let alone a left-back.
And if recent transfer windows are anything to go by, it seems Tottenham and PSG have somewhat of a healthy transfer relationship, with Spurs signing Serge Aurier and most recently Lucas Moura from the French giants.
On the whole, Kurzawa processes the creativity, pace and direct play from the full-back position that Tottenham have been craving since Kyle Walker’s departure to Manchester City in the summer.

And while we currently have a squad more than capable of winning trophies and securing top-four finishes year on year, the left-back position has become somewhat of a concern moving forward into the future.
Would Kurzawa be the obvious choice to solve these woes? If his stats this season are anything to go by the French international would be a worthy choice for Tottenham going forward onto bigger and better things.
