It now seems Tottenham are preparing themselves for life without Toby Alderweireld and the look for a worthy replacement has ramped up in recent days with the Belgian international looking ever more likely to be on his way out of North-London.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested Spurs are interested in German international Jonathan Tah, however, in the past few days their interest has seemed to switch to another Bundesliga prospect who has been gaining a lot of attention in the German top flight.

According to German news outlet BILD, Spurs have sent scouts to watch the progress of 21-year-old Stuttgart defender Benjamin Pavard, who is touted as a future star of the game and highly-rated by his current club.

The young Frenchman’s performances so far this season earned him a call-up to the French national team, an achievement in itself with the abundance of young French talent currently lighting up the European football scene.

And due to the defenders age and current rocketing form, Spurs would more than likely have to burst the bank if they were to require his services, this was made apparent by the Stuttgart director who was quoted by BILD saying:

“If now in the summer of a club believes he can commit him for 30 million euros transfer fee, this club was wrong. We would not even open the door for a conversation.”

Furthermore the director went onto speak of his desire to see Pavard playing his football at Stuttgart again in the next campaign:

“Benjamin is at the heart of our team. And we definitely want to see him wearing the VfB dress next season.”

This suggests Spurs and Pochettino will face an up-hill struggle if they are to require the services of the talented 21-year-old centre back, however, with the potential Pavard has shown already so far this season and with the thought of losing a key asset in Toby Alderweireld it may just be worth it.

It’s yet to be seen whether or not Spurs will act fast in requiring an alternative for Alderweireld, however, if the Belgian international is to leave North-London, Pavard  could prove to be a savvy piece of business from Tottenham as a replacement.
