Unfortunately, we’re still playing the waiting game regarding potential forthcoming transfers, but I take great consolation knowing the season is less than a month away.

Transfer rumours aside, there’s still loads to report from the always-entertaining and informative Twittersphere. Let’s get right to the best tweets from the week that was.

Paul Robinson announces retirement

In the famous words of Simon & Garfunkel – with Tottenham HQ’s slight twist.

"“And here’s to you Paul Robinson, Spurs fans love you more than you will know, whoa, oh, oh. Tottenham knows what you did for us, and we recall just how well you play, hey, hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey.”"

I’ve added the song so you can sing along, too.

Just make sure you’re not at your desk, or at your cubicle in a crowded office when belting out the timeless melody. The demonstrative keeper wore Spurs’ colours from 2004-2008, a tenure consisting of 137 matches. The former English starting keeper made Spurs’ supporters proud, and he still does.

Happy birthday Gareth

Arguably the best player to don Spurs’ garb, Gareth Bale turned 28 on July 16. Take a look at his top five goals during his time in north London. He’ll forever be remembered for the ability to win a game in an instant, thanks to one of sweetest left boots in the world and an uncanny penchant for heroics.

Happy birthday Mousa

Yet another birthday this week, Mousa Dembele turned 30 on the same day Bale turned 28. Dembele is looking pretty swift for what some would not call a quasi-elder statesman. Dembele, like a fine whisky, is getting better with age. Hopefully he can avoid the injury bug in 2017-18, and perform to the elite level Spurs’ supporters have come to expect. Happy birthday Mousa!

Vertonghen and Alderweireld signed on the same day three years apart

@IndiaSpurs points out that Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld were signed on the same day, July 8, three years apart. Spurs’ first-choice center backs are one of the main reasons the club is enjoying such consistent, and lofty, success. They are the backbone of the team, offering defensive stability, unwavering commitment and passion. They lead by example and are respected by teammates and supporters both on and off the pitch.
