Progress has been made regarding Georges-Kévin N’Koudou’s transfer to join Tottenham before the window closes.

A couple of days ago, Sky Sports’ sources reported that Georges-Kévin N’Koudou has been training with Tottenham since Thursday.

An agreement was reached nearly 10 days ago, but this is the most promising news since Spurs first showed interest in the France Under-21 international last month.

With the international break effectively happening right now, there’s a possibility that N’Koudou could suit up against Stoke City on September 10th.

That is assuming the 21-year-old has officially joined the club from now until then.

Currently, this is the longest transfer saga in recent memory for Spurs.

And it shouldn’t have been, had Olympique Marseille’s front office stayed intact until after a deal had fully gone through.

What started out as a quick agreement with transfer fees, personal terms, and a medical, ended up being a month-long of waiting and renegotiating.

The fact that Marseille, per Sky Sports’ article up top, has given N’Koudou permission to train with Spurs is telling.

It means that this long-running transfer will finally end before the window closes.

And if not, then this would have been a major waste of time and effort for both clubs, but especially Tottenham who need reinforcements with the Champions League coming up.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side badly needs more players to help out with rotation, depth and competing against better competition in Europe but also in the Premiership.

Starting in September, they will play six fixtures (three different competitions) in a span of 17 days.

Their bench at the moment is not enough to cope with that many games happening with little to no rest (the minimum is two days, the maximum is four).

More from Tottenham Transfer Rumours

Georges-Kévin N’Koudou who can play both left wing and right wing would be a good signing for a club that lacks quality wingers besides Érik Lamela.

Son Heung-Min is more of an attacking midfielder, Nacer Chadli is decent but has been serviceable in three seasons, Clinton N’Jie will join Marseille on a season-long loan.

And Christian Eriksen is like Son, a central attacking midfielder who plays better behind a striker.

The only major problem with signing N’Koudou so late is that he won’t be ready in time.

While it was mentioned above that the French winger could suit up against Stoke City once club football resumes, he won’t be able to make much of an impact right away.

It’s nearly impossible to expect N’Koudou to hit the ground running like Vincent Janssen has, without having a month of pre-season football under your belt.

That and he has only started to resume training recently.

With a long season ahead of Spurs, Pochettino’s side could find themselves struggling out of the gates starting next month with three signings (if N’Koudou joins).

January is about four months away now that August is practically over.

And this early in the season, it’s quite difficult to see Spurs sitting outside the top four come winter time with their bench, unless Tottenham find their form quickly.
