Tottenham striker, Harry Kane, wants to retire as a Spurs player.

Harry Kane recently spoke to the media about how he wants to remain with Tottenham for the rest of his career.

There aren’t that many footballers who have been fortunate enough to remain with the same team like Francesco Totti has done with AS Roma (27 years including his youth academy days).

But since entering Spurs’ academy at the age of 11, the 23-year-old is dead set on making that happen for as long as possible.

“I’d love to stay here,” Harry Kane said prior to facing Liverpool yesterday (via ESPN UK).

“The club is in great shape at the moment and we’re going forward as a club, and that’s important. As long as there’s a vision with the club, and we’re not stale, we’re going forward as a club.”

Ever since Mauricio Pochettino arrived two summers ago, Spurs have indeed been going forward the past two seasons.

In the Argentine manager’s debut season, Tottenham finished fifth in the league table.

A year later, they finished third and were within striking distance of second place and winning the Premier League title.

The core of Pochettino’s squad is constructed by academy graduates and youth players. Some additions are brought in to help augment what is already there.

Overall, the club is heading in the right direction.

“At the moment, we’re an excited group of young players with a great manager, great training ground and a new stadium coming, too,” Kane added.

“I’d love to stay here for the rest of my career. We’ll just have to see what happens.”

Since the end of last season Harry Kane has been involved in audacious transfer rumors to join Manchester United, but that was never going to happen.

It’s not hard to see a player who is Tottenham through-and-through reject any kind of move away from his boyhood club.

Keeping Spurs’ talisman isn’t a difficult thing to do even before he said he would love to end his career as a Spurs player.

Negotiations for a new contract have barely started, but it’s to be expected that a deal will be agreed upon in the future.

All that’s left is to continue improving the squad from top to bottom.

“We want to improve on last year, we want to get better,” Kane continued.

“We’re not scared of anyone, not scared of any players or managers.”

“We’re confident in our ability. We’re there to be right at the top and fight for the title again.”

“Teams buy players and change managers if they feel they need change at the club. The gaffer doesn’t feel like we needed that. He was happy with his squad.”

“He added a couple of great signings, and we’re happy. We’ve been getting better every year, but for us it’s just about staying focused.”

Although Spurs have managed to add two new players in the form of Victor Wanyama and Vincent Janssen, if what Harry Kane says is true, then other than Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t feel his squad needs many upgrades.

And Kane isn’t the only one who sees this summer as more of a fine-tuning than an overhaul. Hugo Lloris feels that a couple of additions are needed because the core is already set.

After three games, it seems like reinforcements should have been brought in, but that’s another topic for another day.
