Tottenham earned a draw against Everton thanks to Érik Lamela’s goal.

Érik Lamela who scored the equalizer for Tottenham believes that getting a draw is well deserved after a difficult and challenging game.

While the Argentine winger thought Spurs should have won, they weren’t playing well in the first half like usually did last year.

Speaking with Spurs TV, Lamela said a win should have happened, but quickly pointed out that if they played better in the opening 45 minutes, the three points would have been theirs instead of just one.

“Yeah, yeah, very good. Very good goal,” Érik Lamela said after pulling Tottenham level with Everton in the 59th minute.

“We deserved [a win] I think in the second half. We play a bit better.”

“The first half we didn’t play good.”

“Honestly, we have to improve a lot from the first half to start to play better.”

“And I think the next game it’s important to change it.”

It’s to be expected some changes will be incorporated prior to Tottenham’s home opener against Crystal Palace. But what they will be is unknown.

We’ve seen that in one game Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier didn’t play well together.

In fact, Dier looked lost because Wanyama was in his way more often than not. This doesn’t mean they can’t coexist, after all it was the first time the two played together in a competitive fixture with a lot on the line.

But maybe Spurs aren’t suited to play with two defensive midfielders at the same time. It’s never happened before.

Mauricio Pochettino has always featured a defensive and central midfield pairing for the past two seasons: Nabil Bentaleb/Ryan Mason and Eric Dier/Mousa Dembélé.

If one were to choose what new addition would be made to the starting XI, it’s almost a given that it would be the inclusion of Dutch striker Vincent Janssen.

It’s not just Pochettino who is giving the £17 million signing plenty of praise, Lamela joined in as well.

After Janssen replaced Eric Dier in the second half, Tottenham grew into the game.

They looked more like their usual selves, showing some exciting attacking football and high-pressing Everton into a defensive shell for the rest of the second half.

Érik Lamela summed it up best by saying that Spurs were getting plenty of chances after the 22-year-old came into the match.

“Yeah, he [Janssen] helped a lot,” Lamela said. “He was a big help for us.”

“He change the game and I think we create a lot of chances.”

The spark Vincent Janssen provided Tottenham means he’s more suited as a starter rather than watching on the bench.

Like Érik Lamela, Janssen’s pre-season form has carried over into the Premier League. And that’s promising, which should suggest that he starts more often.

If Mauricio Pochettino uses both strikers next week and it results in a win, it will make yesterday’s draw against Everton look much better.

“In the end we deserved a win in the second half [against Everton],” Lamela added.

“But, we didn’t play well in the first half so we need to improve for the next game.”

“In the end, it’s not a bad result, one point away.”

“We are now thinking about the next game at home [against Crystal Palace].”
