Following the exits of Grant Ward, Alex Pritchard and Federico Fazio, Tottenham have now seen a fourth player leave this summer.

Tottenham have sold yet another former academy graduate, this time it’s center-back Dominic Ball who joins Championship side, Rotherham United, for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old had never featured for the senior team during his five-year spell with Spurs.

It was thought that after a successful year-long loan to Rangers in the Scottish Championship (the second division), where he helped the Gers pull off a double (league title and league cup) Ball might have a future in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.

It turns out that wasn’t the case and now he is on the move once again, permanently.

Below is Tottenham confirming Dominic Ball’s sale with a quick tweet, followed by the English defender saying thanks for the opportunity that Spurs gave him.

Ball giving his thanks to Tottenham for the past five years:

No one will truly know how good Dominic Ball could have been with Tottenham’s first-team as he was never given a chance, but a couple of sub-par, mediocre or okay showings in Spurs’ Australian tour against Juventus and Atlético Madrid appears to have done him in.

It also didn’t help that Cameron Carter-Vickers appears to have outplayed him when the two were playing together. That, and Pochettino didn’t mention Ball’s name as a possible backup option while Jan Vertonghen was recovering.

These two things combined made it clear that Dominic Ball’s future was in doubt, but it wasn’t exactly known until… well earlier today after he was officially sold.

Over on Rotherham’s official site, manager Alan Stubbs explains the signing of Dominic Ball and how he will be a good addition to his squad.

“First of all we’re delighted that we’ve managed to get the deal concluded and Dominic is a player I know quite a bit about from my time at Hibs with him playing at Rangers on loan from Tottenham,”

“He did very well and I think any young player going into that environment at Rangers is a big ask, but he fitted into it very well and he was very comfortable with the situation.”

“We’re delighted that we’ve managed to sign him.”

Stubs continues by saying that Ball’s age and how talented he is will help give the Millers’ current players some real good competition.

“We’re getting him at a great age,” Stubbs continued.

“He’s 21 and he’s a young, talented defender who will give real competition for places here which is what we want. We’ll get improvement out of the players that are already here because of the fact that they have players pushing them now.”

“It was the same when I was playing as it makes you dig into your reserves to improve, and that’s what we want.”

“Competition is a real healthy thing to have in the club and it’s something we’re striving to improve. Dominic will bring that.”

The scorecard is at 4-2, with four players having left via a permanent sale or on loan. While only two players have joined Tottenham.

These numbers don’t mean anything actually, but it’s a good reminder as to what’s currently happening this summer window and how Mauricio Pochettino is continuously shaping up his squad for this season and beyond.
