With Mauricio Pochettino keen on improving his attacking options up top at the forward position, the Tottenham Hotspur manager has offered a deal for a teenager who could have potential.

According to France Football (via Enfield Independent), Tottenham have offered Wilfried Kanga, 18, of Paris Saint-Germain a contract offer to join the north London outfit ahead of the summer transfer window opening.

It’s not surprising to see that Mauricio Pochettino is interested in signing some more young talent that could potentially have a future within a few seasons after spending some time in Spurs’ youth academy.

And with the Under-20 Ivorian international set to become a free agent at the end of the month, why not try to sign him on a free transfer if he has some potential?

The only downside to this move is with him not getting much playing time with PSG’s Under-19 team. That in of itself, makes Kanga unlikely to be enough help for Harry Kane and Spurs next season if he were signed and went straight into the first team, which France Football believes could happen.

With Kanga playing more predominately as a right winger as opposed to a striker, though he could play either position, this signing wouldn’t exactly address a major problem that is still currently plaguing Tottenham.

Or will continue to plague them, if an out-and-out center-forward isn’t signed from now until the start of Spurs’ season opener on August 13 against Everton.

In just six appearances during the UEFA Youth League (taken from his Transfermarkt profile page), Wilfried Kanga started twice and was subbed in four times with a goal to his name against Real Madrid in the semi-finals, coming off the bench.

So it shows — briefly — that at 18-years-old, he does in fact have some talent. He just needs more time to develop, which he could get at Tottenham’s youth academy.

But, before trying to sign the teenager, Benfica have been rumored to be interested in the Ivorian striker as well. Therefore Spurs must act quickly if they want to sign Wilfried Kanga or lose out on him.

If Benfica wins the right to sign the 18-year-old then so be it. The same will be said if Tottenham sign Kanga. Because no one truly expects him to make much of an impact when he gets the call to make it into the first team there are no expectations for the young teenager.

So whether he joins the first team if signed now, or comes in a few years after spending some time in Spurs’ youth ranks, expectations will be the same. No one knows who he is and what he can do, so everyone’s interest will be “meh” at best.

Assuming that Kanga is signed, he will follow in the same footsteps as Dele Alli and Tracey Shilow before him, as two young talents that — for the most part — no one knew about except for Tottenham’s transfer committee who scouted them extensively.

Shilow and even Wilfried Kanga won’t be able to replicate what Alli has done since joining Tottenham last summer, but his play on the pitch is now the standard which has been set (unfairly mind you) whenever Mauricio Pochettino signs a young unknown teenage talent.
