Ranking Tottenham’s New Additions
By Peter Brewis
2. Kevin Wimmer
Much has been made about the Tottenham Hotspur defense this season, and rightly so. Being among the best defenses in the Premier League is nothing to take lightly. However, most supporters believed that the drastic change in fortunes was predicated on the Belgian partnership in the center of the back line. Kevin Wimmer, however, proved perfectly capable to step in and fill a spot vacated by Jan Vertonghen when he got hurt.
Wimmer ended up making 22 total appearances for Tottenham, with 10 coming in the Premier League, six in the Europa League, and four in the FA Cup. The most notable of his performances, however, certainly came in the Premier League and not exactly for anything spectacular that he did, but more for how nothing seemed to change on the pitch. Up until his injury, Jan Vertonghen had played every single Premier League game for Tottenham Hotspur. Wimmer was able to slot in beside Alderweireld and not disrupt anything.
