Two weeks ago, Tottenham Hotspur were considering a plan to move their Champions League games away from White Hart Lane for next season. Today, they are confirming the news by warning season ticket holders ahead of time.

Tottenham continue to make progress on their brand new stadium which has a projected date of the 2018-19 seaso in which it should be completed. However, there are a few things that must be done in order to make construction work smoother.

According to the London Evening Standard the North East corner of White Hart Lane could be affected as well as 1,800 season ticket holders.

The main areas in the stadium which will be affected are all the seats within Blocks 24, 56, A, and B and a portion of seats in Blocks 23, 55 and C.

All of the fans who sit in these sections will be contacted by the club once alternative seats have been allocated. As of this moment, no date has been set when alternative seats will be available for the supporters.

Here’s the main gist of why European games will be moving from White Hart Lane:

“Any work which could be undertaken would result in a reduction in capacity of 4,000 and staging games elsewhere in order to comply with UEFA stadium requirements for Champions League fixtures is on the agenda.”

Essentially, Tottenham could be playing at, or just under 30,000 fans since Spurs average home attendance last season was at 35.728 (taken from World Football).

A Tottenham statement further delves into what is currently happening with the construction work at and around White Hart Lane:

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and every effort will be made, where possible, to ensure that those relocated will be moved to equivalent seats and sat alongside the same set of supporters.”

“The impact of any works that might be undertaken in the North East corner would result in a reduction in seats for games next season of approximately 4,000 in total when general admission and corporate seats are included.”

“In order to comply with all UEFA stadium requirements for staging Champions League fixtures, we are discussing options that include the possibility of playing our European games away from White Hart Lane next season.”

“We should like to thank all of our supporters for their understanding in relation to the above information and in respect of the building works surrounding the stadium as we approach our last home game this season.”

One possible location which has been talked about for Tottenham to host Champions League games is to stage them at Wembley Stadium.

Of course, in order to do that, Spurs will have to get permission from the Football Association to play a minimum of six group stage matches and then possibly the knockout rounds.

There are no other destinations that have been thought of to play European games if White Hart Lane isn’t a suitable stadium, but should Tottenham help secure Wembley for the Champions League it could at least help them out when they look to come back in two seasons when they move out of N17 for a year.
