Spurs Implode, Winless Streak at Stamford Bridge Continues
An improbable title run ended in the worst possible way with Spurs completely imploding against Chelsea in Stamford Bridge. A stadium they have not won in 26 years and counting.
Tottenham had one job to do, and while it was a long shot based on past results and history not in their favor, they failed miserably by letting Chelsea draw 2-2 and allow Leicester City to win the Premier League title with two games left to play for.

But first things first, Tottenham have had an outstanding season despite starting off the year on the wrong foot. And of course just falling short in the title race.
Next up, Leicester City deserved to be crowned champions after showing the footballing world just how much they wanted to win. No matter how big the odds were which were at 5000-1 and what everyone said, the Foxes wouldn’t be deterred in shaking up the Premier League and English football forever.
And now, back to Spurs. It’s quite difficult to understand how Mauricio Pochettino’s side collapsed even though they were ahead 2-0 heading into half-time.
This isn’t the first time that Tottenham have let their opponents come back into the game to draw level or win throughout the season, but the timing couldn’t have been much worse than it was tonight.
A win for Spurs would have only delayed Leicester from winning just slightly as they could have won the title at home against Everton this Saturday even with a draw.
But at the same time, winning meant that Tottenham would still be alive and trailing by five points. While forcing the Foxes to get a positive result with Mauricio Pochettino’s side to breathing down their neck.

Whatever the case was during the entire second half, it’s a shame that Spurs lost their cool, their temper and their minds by recklessly diving into Chelsea’s players and hurting them.
No matter how big this London derby means for both clubs.
Because of how chippy this game ended up being, and the fact that a total of nine yellow cards were shown to Spurs, there is a possible chance that some players could be suspended for the rest of the season if anyone is judged with violent conduct for their actions.
Overall, there’s been a few disappointing results this season, whether it was a draw or a loss. But now that Spurs are officially eliminated in the Premier League title race, this is by far the worst result that they have suffered all year long.
Sure, losing to Leicester back in January hurt. Losing to West Ham United in March was a shock. Drawing against Arsenal and West Brom were stomach punches. Other results like Stoke City and Newcastle United at home were bad, but dropping two points to Chelsea after taking a commanding 2-0 lead (and once again looking confident with a possible win) they couldn’t finish their opponents off.

While Tottenham’s season is far from over with two more games left to be played, they’re only three points ahead of Arsenal for second place. Therefore, they need to finish this season strong.
It’s unknown how Spurs will respond in their next game at White Hart Lane on Sunday, May 8th against Southampton. But they can’t afford to just sit on their laurels — which they might have done tonight in the first place — with six massive points on the line to ensure an automatic spot in next season’s Champions League group stage on the line.
