Spurs have inducted two more members into their illustrious Hall of Fame class with the inclusion of Jimmy Greaves and Steve Perryman. Two great players who were instrumental in Tottenham’s success during the 1960s, 70s, and 80s.

For both Jimmy Greaves and Steve Perryman, their induction into Spurs’ Hall of Fame had been a long time coming now. Back on February 16, 2016, Spurs had announced that they would be inducted tonight (Wednesday, April 20th), but in actuality the duo were supposed to be enshrined much sooner. Unfortunately, both men came down with an illness which ultimately delayed their inductions.

While Steve Perryman is able to attend the Hall of Fame ceremony in person with his family and former teammates, Jimmy Greaves couldn’t make it due to the stroke that he had suffered last May.

Although Greaves is still recovering, his son Andy, his grandson James and his great-grandson Danny were all in attendance to celebrate Jimmy Greaves’ induction into Spurs’ Hall of Fame.

Greaves’ induction is a no-brainer as he is Spurs’ all-time leading goalscorer with 266 goals in 379 appearances in all competitions (league, FA and League Cups and Europe) during a nine-year stint (1961-70) with Tottenham.

But along with all the goals that Jimmy Greaves scored, he had helped Spurs win three trophies: two FA Cups (1962, 1967) and the European Cup Winners Cup (1963) during his stay at White Hart Lane. Which obviously meant that his enshrinement would eventually come for his great contributions to the Club.

As for Steve Perryman, he too was instrumental in continuing Tottenham’s success during a 17-year career with Spurs in which they won six more trophies: two League Cups (1971, 1973), two UEFA Cups (1972, 1984) and two FA Cups (1981, 1982).

Perryman has amassed a Club record of 854 first-team appearances, initially as a midfielder and then later on as a right-back. When asked about his induction into the Hall of Fame, the former captain called it an “honor and a privilege”.

“It’s a very proud day. I’m honoured and privileged to be a part of this select group of players who have served the club so well,” Perryman said during the ceremony on Spurs’ official website.

“It seems such a long time ago that I first walked through those gates when I was 14.”

“I’d been spotted playing for Ealing Schoolboys and been invited for training. I’d never seen the club play before then but was aware of what Tottenham Hotspur and Bill Nicholson stood for.”

“I played for England Schoolboys as well and had offers from about 30 clubs. Suffice to say, I joined Spurs.”

It would take Steve Perryman just three years to make his first-team debut with Spurs at the age of 17 and then three more years for him to become club captain when he was only 20-years-old.

Steve Perryman has been at the heart of some successful seasons with Spurs and the reason why he joined in the first place is because of their history and tradition. Not to mention having Bill Nicholson as the Club’s manager.

“Why did I join Spurs? The history, the tradition, the people and the warmth of the place, including the great Bill Nicholson.”

“It was almost as if Bill’s staff were hand-picked. They all treated you rightly, with respect, of course they could nail you if you stepped out of line, but it was an unbelievable place.”

“I’d like to say I enjoyed every single day, of course there were highs and lows, disappointments as well, but I enjoyed everything this club had to offer.”

“I think we were good for each other, I think I gave value for money and did my bit.

“This club has allowed me to meet some of the best people you could wish to meet and I’m not just talking about the players, I’m talking about all the wonderful people who created the environment here for us to have a successful team. I’m very happy and very proud.”

Spurs and all of their supporters worldwide are proud to induct both Jimmy Greaves and Steve Perryman into Tottenham Hotspur’s Hall of Fame.
