Spurs Getting Reinforcements Ahead of Next Match
Spurs have been handed an injury boost with Hugo Lloris and Érik Lamela returning to training today ahead of their match against Fiorentina in the Europa League on Thursday.
Based on a report by London24’s Brad Pinard, Spurs’ Hugo Lloris and Érik Lamela were able to take part in a training session today ahead of their match against Fiorentina in the second leg of the Europa League’s round of 32.
Lloris and Lamela missed the past two games due to a shoulder injury and the flu, respectively.
With Tottenham having their number one goalkeeper and first choice right midfielder back for today’s training session, it’s a good sign that they could be selected on Mauricio Pochettino’s 18-man matchday squad.
Though both players might not suit up at all however — which would be the best move — and could instead be given more more time off to focus on the Premier League only, which contains three games in seven days.

Most likely, Michel Vorm will remain at goalkeeper when Spurs square off against Fiorentina this Thursday once again. The Dutch international has done a good job this season when called upon in cup games and will see just one more game before making way for Lloris when Tottenham hosts Swansea in the Premier League.
For Érik Lamela, he has been in fine form throughout the year so it’s possible he could get a start, but it might be best to save the Argentine winger for the Swans as well.
If Lamela doesn’t start against the Viola, then it could be a toss up for Pochettino to select his wide midfielders with a busy Premier League schedule approaching.
The Argentine manager could opt for a Nacer Chadli and Josh Onomah pairing again like he did against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup this past Sunday. Or Chadli and Christian Eriksen once more, from the first leg against Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi.

Whichever players that Mauricio Pochettino decides to use in his starting eleven, thinking long term, it would be best advised to not play both Hugo Lloris and Érik Lamela with Swansea City being a must win game in the Premier League, than Fiorentina in the Europa League.
As it stands, being two points behind league leaders, Leicester City and only ahead of Arsenal by goal difference, Spurs can’t afford to play a strong lineup on Thursday and expect to do the same on Sunday. Then once again on March 2nd (Wednesday) and March 5th (Saturday).
Obviously Pochettino has to pick and choose which players could offer Spurs the best chance to beat Fiorentina while also winning against Swansea. But currently, securing a Champions League spot through the Premier League is much easier right now than winning the Europa League.

In any event, Lloris is a definite no-go on Thursday while Lamela shouldn’t be needed for this match-up to start with. Coming on as a sub would be fine for the 23-year-old if need be. But the best case scenario is that Spurs get through Thursday without the need for two players just returning to the lineup after being out for about a week.
If Tottenham do in fact need Hugo Lloris and Érik Lamela, plus a strong lineup, to take care of Fiorentina, then that doesn’t bode well for them when they take on Swansea City with two London derbies coming up against West Ham United and Arsenal.
