Spurs are involved in some more transfer rumors today.

Mauricio Pochettino has been eying a French striker lately, to sign and partner up with Harry Kane. And no, this time it’s not Fulham’s Moussa Dembélé. It’s Jean-Kevin Augustin from PSG instead. The 18-year-old has been granted a loan move by Paris Saint-Germain manager, Laurent Blanc, but Spurs who tried to get a deal done were rejected because they aren’t a good fit.

Now that Jan Vertonghen is injured, Kevin Wimmer will slot in as a starter alongside Toby Alderweireld. So where does this leave Federico Fazio? He’ll still be sold, but won’t return to Sevilla anytime soon because the reigning Europa League winners are expecting reinforcements from two players returning from injury. A summer return to Sevilla for Fazio is likely. These are the latest transfer rumors down below.

Spurs are still on the hunt for strikers, whether that’s a starter or a backup. Mauricio Pochettino knows that another center forward could help out, so long as that player fits in with the team. Like French international Moussa Dembélé.

But this isn’t the French striker that Spurs were looking for — or at least it wasn’t made public that Jean-Kevin Augustin was supposedly an option to sign on loan at any point before today. But lo and behold, the 18-year-old PSG striker was a player that Spurs hoped to get on loan until the reigning Ligue 1 champions quickly rejected their approach.

Since Mauricio Pochettino took over as manager back in May 2014, Spurs haven’t looked for loan deals when it comes to signing young talent. The club looks to sign them permanently instead.

So it’s a bit surprising that Augustin was on their radar. Even if Paris Saint-Germain manager, Laurent Blanc said If JK [Jean-Kevin] had an opportunity that interested, we would take into consideration.”

Well it seems that Spurs aren’t the right opportunity for a young player to develop. Which is only true when it comes to the striker position, as starting an 18-year-old alongside Harry Kane doesn’t seem likely. Therefore, with about a week left in the transfer window Spurs will rely the on trio of Kane, Nacer Chadli and Son Heung-min at the striker position.

In an interesting turn of events, Sevilla has now stopped their pursuit of Federico Fazio this month with the return of Daniel Carriço from injury. And with Nico Pareja also close to returning, last year’s Europa League winners don’t see the former Sevilla player as a top priority just yet.

An initial deal was on the table in which Sevilla would take Fazio back on loan with an option to buy and make the move a permanent one during the summer.

Well that didn’t work as Daniel Levy refused the offer and still expects to get his money back which was £7.3 million for triggering Federico Fazio’s release clause.

With Jan Vertonghen’s injury, keeping Federico Fazio on the squad isn’t a bad third choice-option to have. The 28-year-old Argentine international brings experience that surely Kevin Wimmer can learn from along with Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

That being said, because Kevin Wimmer was signed this past summer, the Austrian international automatically slots into the left center-back spot that has been vacated by Jan Vertonghen’s current knee injury. Meaning he gets the first shot at partnering up alongside Alderweireld and can do so against Colchester United in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
