Here’s the latest Tottenham Hotspur Links to read.

Two stories. Both revolve around Mauricio Pochettino. Let’s begin. First up, Harry Redknapp gives his take on why Pochettino would be better of staying with Tottenahm than joining Manchester United if Louis van Gaal would be sacked now or in the future.

And finally, Spurs may be inside the top four, but they have to work just as hard or even harder to remain at their current position according to the Argentine manager. A top four spot is highly coveted with Champions League football, money and exposure there for the taking next season. There are the links below.

It’s not surprising to see Tottenham manager, Mauricio Pochettino, being linked to Manchester United — and any other job that are, or will be, available for that matter. As is, the Argentine has helped transform Spurs into Premier League title contenders this season and has the team playing a high tempo high-press style of football that emphasizes on defense and possession first and foremost.

Throughout the statistics involving Tottenham in the Premier League this season, it all points to a positive outlook. They have the best defense in the Premier League, they’re the third best home and away team in the league based on points won and are the fifth highest scoring club. Not to mention they used to own a 14-match unbeaten streak at one point this season. Currently, Tottenham also have another unbeaten streak, but on the road that spans nine games.

All in all, it goes without saying that Mauricio Pochettino has taken this young Tottenham team that is mostly comprised of English youth and overall has the squad under the average age of 25, reach newer heights that can only be matched — or surpassed — by Harry Redknapp’s teams.

Speaking of Redknapp, if there was a chance to join Manchester United, he knows that it wouldn’t make sense for Pochettino to leave Spurs for a club that is currently struggling and is inconsistent.

“No, I wouldn’t think he would want to leave, Harry Redknapp speaking to talkSPORT. “Tottenham’s a good club, they’ve got a fantastic training ground now, they get great support. Tottenham is one of the top club’s in the country. The manager is a great guy as well, he’s really impressed me.”

As of this moment right now, the better club in terms of performance, league position and having a better squad is Tottenham. Manchester United still boast more money than the Lilywhites, but Spurs have done well the past two seasons with Mauricio Pochettino and Paul Mitchell spearheading the transfer market and finding the right players for their team than what the Red Devils have done in the same span.

In a few years time, especially once Tottenham gets their new stadium, the playing field will start shrinking soon between the Lilywhites and the bigger clubs who can spend more and attract world class footballers. Potential-wise and in general, Mauricio Pochettino has more to gain by staying with Tottenham and everything to lose by not succeeding with Manchester United.

Being able to get a win against Leicester City tomorrow (January 13) will help close the gap to one point behind the second placed Foxes and three points away from league leaders Arsenal.

Of course, as easy as that sounds, even Mauricio Pochettino continues to preach that Tottenham must keep their focus because it’s entirely possible that they could miss out on a top four spot if their play on the pitch dips and they start losing their form.

“It’s important to keep focused,” Pochettino told a pre-match news conference. “We are the youngest squad in the Premier League. It’s a big prize for us when you show confidence in us.”

“The most important thing is always that we really believe in our quality and we are able to go to every game and believe we can win every game. This is our ambition. When our supporters believe too, this is the most important thing. But we need to respect the game, the opponent, the Premier League.”

So far, Spurs have set their sights on their upcoming opponent by taking a one game at a time approach, but on certain instances depending on game flow, if Tottenham are dominating the opposition they let up just enough for their opponents to mount a comeback and steal two points or all three.

Stoke City, Leicester City and Newcastle United are three games this season where nine total points were dropped. Tottenham were leading in all three games and something happened. Mental mistakes, or lapses in the defense allowed the Potters and the Foxes to draw level and earn one point. Whereas the Magpies stole all three.

Clearly it’s hard to win in the Premier League even against teams that shouldn’t match up that well from a talent and quality standpoint based on where top six or seven clubs are at against mid-table clubs. Here’s Mauricio Pochettino continuing:

“In football, things can turn quickly. We are in a positive run but if you are not focused, you can fail and wake up and for that, in football, you need to show big respect.”

“We’re very young, we need to keep our feet on the ground and try to work hard. We are fourth in the table because we work very hard and play like a team. We need to not forget that we’re in the top four after 20 games because we work hard all together.”
