A New Year’s Day edition of Tottenham Hotspur Links.

To begin the New Year, Hotspur HQ is here to give you the latest news happening around the Premier League involving Tottenham. First up, Spurs are contemplating on how best to sign 20-year-old Spanish striker, Sandro Ramírez from Barcelona.

Next up, Tottenham have finally come of age according to Sportsnet soccer commentator James Sharman. And finally, HITC’s Dan Coombs takes a look at his three Tottenham youth players to take notice of during 2016. These are the latest links down below.

There are two ways to go about this and either way Tottenham have a chance to add another young talented footballer to their club. By triggering an £8.8 million release clause or to pay a measly £3 million with a buy-back clause. How they do so will ultimately be a £5.8 million difference.

That small amount of money is actually quite huge in fact, considering what Spurs could use with nearly £6 million. Remember, Dele Alli was bought for £5 million. But at the same time Mauricio Pochettino could surely benefit with a 20-year-old learning from Harry Kane who is one of the best young strikers in football right now.

So what should Spurs do? Here’s what The Tottenham Way’s Dan Kilpatrick had to say:

"“Let’s assume the Mail and the Mirror are both on the money for a minute (which isn’t particularly likely), then Spurs may have a choice of buying Sandro for £8.8m with no buy-back clause or buying him for just £3m with a buy-back clause. If Tottenham genuinely believe in the youngster, the former option seems wiser. If Sandro arrives with a buy-back clause and lives up to his obvious potential, he could swiftly return to the Nou Camp.”"

Whatever ends up happening, it’s obvious that Tottenham wouldn’t want to see Sandro — assuming he lives up to his potential — return to Barcelona and start over with no actual backup striker (even if Nacer Chadli, Clinton N’Jie and Son Heung-min can play the position according to Mauricio Pochettino).

      More from Hotspur HQ

The praise for Tottenham and Mauricio Pochettino continues and the latest media outlet to take notice is Canada’s television network, Sportsnet. Sportsnet commentator James Sharman had a sit down to discuss many of the storylines that are happening in the Premier League this season.

Now obviously the two biggest stories are Leicester City as a potential title contender and Chelsea’s fall from grace (for now).

But from top to bottom there’s been plenty of salivating news to keep every football fan interested.

From Jürgen Klopp as Liverpool’s manager, to Manchester United doing just enough to hang outside of the top four but spiral out of the Champions League. A change of managers coming and going, surprise teams climbing up the league table, the three newly promoted clubs doing well.

And finally in the middle of all of these latest happenings is Tottenham. Here’s a question and answer regarding Tottenham and Mauricio Pochettino:

"Tottenham find themselves in the top four going into the weekend. How do you account for their current lofty status? What do they have to do to ensure a top four finish?Mauricio Pochettino has proved himself to be a superb manager, and although it’s taken a year he has now gathered a group of youngsters with a spattering of class veterans to form a team that plays the way he wants it to: strong defence, good shape, bulldogs off the ball, and excellent on the break.Basically it looks like his Southampton side on steroids. Spurs’ plus-18 goal difference is the best in the league, and all those draws early in the season are turning into wins now. I absolutely think Spurs have what it takes to stay in the top four; in fact they might be the team that most takes advantage of this crazy season and the struggles of Chelsea and maybe Manchester United."

Now obviously, these are players that HITC’s author, Dan Coombs thinks Tottenham supporters should follow. So while there are others out there that are doing well and deserve a mention, bear in mind that these are his opinions. And now, to begin his list here are his three youth players: Marcus Edwards, Keanan Bennetts and Cameron Carter-Vickers.

"Marcus EdwardsCentral midfielder Marcus Edwards is an England youth international, who Tim Sherwood raved about in a column for The Independent in 2014. The central midfielder is a box-to-box player, who will hope to make similar strides to Onomah in the past year, and establish himself for the Under-21s over the next year.Keanan BennettsExciting winger Keanan Bennetts recently broke into the Under-21 side, and has a big future ahead of him. He is eligible to play international football for England, Germany, and Nigeria, but has for now committed his future to the Three Lions. He will be a key part of Tottenham’s attempts to win the FA Youth Cup this year, and he is a player very much worth keeping an eye on.Cameron Carter-VickersU.S. youth international Cameron Carter-Vickers has made the step up from Under-18 to Under-21 football, and has won the praise of coach Ugo Ehiogu. The defender could benefit from the potential sale of Federico Fazio and get a chance in the first team, and add to his burgeoning reputation."

Again, there are other players to keep an eye on such as Josh Onomah and Harry Winks who are currently on the squad right now. But due to everyone’s current form at Onomah and Winks’ respective positions, it won’t be until the FA Cup at the very earliest that these two will return to the pitch and get some playing time.

At the very least, the two players mentioned above, Edwards and Bennetts, are the type that no one has heard of, or knows little about ,which can help people start following them more closely to see how they’re doing. They’ll soon be playing in Spurs’ Under-21 team and will be just one more step closer to possibly getting a post-season and/or a pre-season tour with Tottenham to see how far they’ve come in their development.
