Here’s the second to last edition of December’s Tottenham Hotspur Links.

Today there will be three stories — the normal amount — for you readers to digest. Up first, former Tottenham manager, Harry Redknapp, believes that Saido Berahino’s current behavior will only disrupt Spurs’ current form. And potentially damage their chances of staying in the top four and pushing for a Premier League title.

Next, there’s some quick info on the opening and closing dates of the January transfer window for the top five European Leagues. And finally to stick with the theme of transfer targets, like Saido Berahino, there is a roundup of all the names that Tottenham have been linked to since this past summer and were they’re currently at now. Let’s get to the links below.

Despite the amount of talent that Saido Berahino has, Harry Redknapp believes that he won’t be a fit for Mauricio Pochettino’s squad due to his current behavior. And while that’s actually true, there isn’t a better option out there who has not only played alongside Harry Kane in England’s Under-21 team, but as a lone could actually post similar numbers to that of Kane. Here’s what Berahino put up last term: 38 appearances, 14 goals and one assist in the Premier League.

"“[Tottenham] are not too far short in the squad when you look at it,” Redknapp told talkSPORT. They’re not going to find anyone better than Harry Kane, but it’s just if he gets injured.”“They’re talking about the boy at West Brom, but I’m not sure about him. It would be a bit of a gamble. His attitude does seem the greatest and you don’t need that.”“There’s a great spirit at Tottenham, a great group of young players all pulling for each other and the manager has done a fantastic job. You don’t want to take any chances and disrupt that really.”"

It’s no guarantee that Saido Berahino’s behavior will improve if he left West Brom and joined Tottenham. At the same time, it’s also highly unlikely that whoever Spurs sign as a backup striker will be able to alter games like Berahino could potentially do. This doesn’t even factor in Kane’s form taking a dip in the second half of the season.

Saido Berahino is the perfect example of high-risk, high-reward. If it works out for Spurs, they’ll be lauded for getting the best striker partner for Harry Kane while already boasting good options in Son Heung-min and Clinton N’Jie. If it fails, Tottenham will have wasted £20 million-plus for a striker who isn’t in form and won’t improve until it’s already too late at Berahino’s current pace.

For the Premier League, the winter transfer window opens on January 2nd and closes on February 1st. So just 30 days instead of the full 31 that it should have been, but whatever.

Now while Mauricio Pochettino has smartly decided to look at domestic players first and foremost, if Tottenham are still interested in overseas talent in the other top European Leagues here are the dates.

Other European leagues’ transfer window open and close dates:

Bundesliga: Opens — January 1st | Closes — February 2nd

La Liga: Opens — January 4th | Closes — January 31st

Ligue 1: Opens — January 2nd | Closes — February 1st

Serie A: Opens — January 4th | Closes — February 1st

With rumors linking Tottenham to sign Barcelona striker Sandro Ramírez. Spurs can still sign the 24-year-old Spaniard but with La Liga’s winter transfer window opening on the fourth of January — which is a day after Tottenham faces Everton (Jan. 3rd) — it’ll be a while before anything can happen just yet between both clubs.

During the summer transfer window, Tottenham were linked to many names and besides the five that were signed, the rest didn’t join the Lilywhites. Here is a quick roundup of big-named players who had a good season last term and were linked to Tottenham.

This past summer’s transfer targets:

  • Christian Benteke — Liverpool (formerly of Aston Villa)
  • Saido Berahino — West Brom
  • Danny Ings — Liverpool (formerly of Burnley)
  • James McCarthy — Everton
  • Morgan Schneiderlin — Manchester United (formerly of Southampton)

Now while there are many more names that were connected to Spurs over the summer — a list that is too much to put down — no bids were put out so that’s why they weren’t listed. But for those who actually do want to know who were linked to Tottenham here there are.
