Sometimes the numbers don’t tell the whole story. For an attacker, Ginola never scored a lot of goals. His workrate was beyond question, though, and he was always the player your eyes fixated on when watching a Tottenham game. He was flamboyant. He took risks.

What relatively few goals he scored were always beautiful, the capping points of weaving dribbles or some clever one-two with another Spurs player. In a fairer world, one where his frequently splendid play resulted in more production, Ginola’s would be much higher on this list.
