Roman Pavlyuchenko’s career with Tottenham might seem like a blip because he was a fourth-choice striker throughout his tenure. But make no mistake, when Pavlyuchenko scored, he scored frequently whenever he was on the pitch. In 113 appearances for the club, many of them as a substitute, the Russian striker scored 42 times.

If you have a higher goals per minute ratio than Jermain Defoe, Robbie Keane and Peter Crouch, and you’re hardly ever used, then you’re doing something right as a super-sub-like player. Unfortunately for the Russian striker, Harry Redknapp still wasn’t convinced.
