Transfer fee: £6.25 million
Former club: FC Porto (Liga NOS [Portuguese League])
Years with Spurs: July 1, 2003 — July 9, 2004
Stats: 19 appearances, 1 goal, 0 assists (in all competitions)

Hélder Postiga should have been a great addition to Glenn Hoddle’s Tottenham team. He was just coming off a treble with his boyhood club FC Porto, a campaign in which the striker had scored 19 goals. Along with fellow newcomer Bobby Zamora, 20-year-old Postiga was to be the future of Tottenham’s attack.

Only he wasn’t. He played 19 games in his first and only season with the club and scored precisely one goal. One would imagine that by chance alone he would have scored more than once over that time period, but Postiga was just that bad. The Portuguese returned to Porto the next season, never to return.
