Tottenham Hotspur Links: Two Spurs Players Make FourFourTwo’s Best 100 Players in the World of 2015
It’s time for the latest edition of Tottenham Hotspur Links.
As usual here are today’s three headlines. To start with, there are two Spurs players who made FourFourTwo’s Best 100 list of 2015. Next up, DeAndre Yedlin reflects on the positives that he and his teammates got despite losing to Arsenal last week. And finally, Toby Alderweireld warns his team about feeling overconfident after a big win over AS Monaco in the Europa League. To the links below.

For Tottenham supporters who wanted to see where their players ranked, FourFourTwo, conveniently wrote a short article showing the two Spurs players who made the list and what rank they were. Although it’s a quite shocker to not see Hugo Lloris make his return after appearing in last year’s FFT’s Best 100 in 2014 edition at number 88 and being the sole representative for Tottenham.
"93. Son Heung-min – The South Korean, who has netted five goals and supplied two assists in his last three internationals, topped FFT’s 50 Best Asian Players 2015 earlier in the year and makes his debut in the overall list of the game’s finest footballers.90. Harry Kane – With 24 Premier League goals to his name in 2015 and three strikes in eight internationals for England, Harry Kane makes a first appearance in the FFT100 and even ranks above the Three Lions’ all-time top scorer Wayne Rooney.Kane is the highest-placed Spurs player in this year’s list but he’s only narrowly ahead of the Lilywhites’ new signing from Bayer Leverkusen, Son Heung-min."
Both Son Heung-min and Harry Kane are placed at the bottom of the list despite remarkable years last term because it’s their first time being nominated. Also, it could be because FourFourTwo’s list takes into account Son and Kane’s performances during the year of 2015 only — or at least that’s what it looks like. In any event, it’s good to see Tottenham being represented and it will be even more interesting to see who makes it in for next year’s edition.

After losing last week’s game to Arsenal 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium, DeAndre Yedlin still saw positives and hopes that he and his teammates can build on them as they are set to face Watford on Saturday at home in the Stadium of Light.
“We had a couple of defensive lapses but overall I think we were in the game and I think it was a pretty positive performance,” said Yedlin. “I think it’s important that we take the positives as well as the negatives and learn from them, and we will head into the Watford game in a positive mindset.”
Losing to Arsenal dropped the Black Cats into the bottom three of the Premier League table where they sit in 19th place, above Aston Villa but below Newcastle. A win would help propel Sunderland above the Toons who sit only a point ahead with 13 points thus far. This game is a must-win and Yedlin knows it.
“It’s a very big game; it’s a game that we have got to win. They’re a team that is very beatable so if we can snatch three points from them we’ll be in good shape. If we perform how we did against Arsenal but put our chances away and cut out the little defensive lapses, I think we’ll grab all three points.”

Winning is a great feeling, the team gets three points, they climb up the league table and they’re feeling confident about themselves. Winning big in games is also a great feeling, but then you stumble into feeling overconfident. Now when you couple that with upcoming fixtures against Newcastle United, Norwich City, Southampton and Watford, your eyes start to widen.
How can you not win these next four games? But feeling overconfident is something that Toby Alderweireld will look to warn his teammates about with a congested — albeit very manageable — schedule during the holidays.

“We are doing well but we can improve. We know our strength is working hard so we have to keep doing that. At home we have to take the three points against Newcastle.”
Although Newcastle United are sitting in the relegation zone, they did just beat Liverpool 2-0 in their last game, so taking them lightly is not the preferred option. Otherwise Tottenham runs the risk and draws a third consecutive game and stifles their chances of continuing their push for a top-four finish.
