Tottenham Hotspur Links: Spurs Take the Next Step in Stadium Move

It’s another day, meaning it’s another Tottenham Hotspur Links.

Here are the four latest stories to read. First, Tottenham have found a construction partner to help them build their brand new stadium for the 2018-19 Premier League season. Next, Christian Eriksen talks about how other players wanted to help Spurs’ close out the game against London rivals, West Ham United. The third story will look at how Mauricio Pochettino can rotate his starting eleven ahead of their Europa League fixture. And lastly, Spurs’ Ladies have announced a new signing and their third international player on the squad. These are the links, let’s get to them.

Tottenham’s construction partners who will help build Spurs’ £400 million, 61,000 capacity stadium, is Mace Construction. Two other parties, Brookfield and Sir Robert McAlpine, were in the running to land the construction project deal according to industry website Construction Enquirer.

Some projects that Mace Construction have worked on consists of: The Shard, Heathrow Terminal 5 and various venues used during the Lonodn 2012 Olympic Games. In other words, Tottenham chose a good partner to help build their new stadium. The next step now is to wait until December 8 for a decision from Haringey Council’s planning committee.

Here’s Daniel Levy speaking about the matter:

“This is another step towards the delivery of one of the best stadiums in the world,” Levy said in an official statement on Mace’s website. “We are delighted to have Mace on board. They bring a wealth of experience and I know they share our commitment to ensuring that the development will be first class in every aspect. We now await Haringey Council’s Planning Committee decision on 8 December 2015.”

Harry Kane got a brace this past Sunday in Tottenham’s 4-1 win over West Ham but there could have been more goals scored even after Toby Alderweireld and Kyle Walker’s goals helped increase Spurs’ lead. If Dele Alli and Ryan Mason hadn’t hit the crossbar and post, respectively that would have been six goals on the day.

Christian Eriksen, discusses how everyone wanted to score against West Ham:

“We took the chances that we had, we got a bit of luck on one or two, but we scored four goals and could have scored more,” said Eriksen, who had two assists on the day.

“I think everyone wanted to score. Everybody got in the right positions and we made sure we took the opportunities we had so we’re all pretty satisfied with the result. The third goal was probably the most important because you know when you’re 2-0 up anything can happen. But we got ourselves on top and when we scored the third goal we showed we can finish it off how we’re supposed to.”

Mauricio Pochettino likes to take his season one game at a time — in fact every player and coach does that all the time. It’s a good approach, don’t look too far ahead of yourselves. But in this case, Tottenham must look past Qarabağ FK because their Premier League match against Chelsea in a London derby is more important.

Spurs have a game in hand if they’re unable to secure a win and three points on Thanksgiving night at Azerbaijan. What they won’t have is that same sense of security in the Premier League when four points separates one through five in the league table.

Any points dropped in the Premiership can cost Spurs a shot to sit inside the top four before January. That being said, a weakened lineup might not be smart for Tottenham’s Europa League fixture on Thursday.

At least, five key starters: Christian Eriksen, Harry Kane, Érik Lamela, Hugo Lloris and Jan Vertonghen must get rest. That means Dele Alli, Mousa Dembélé, Clinton N’Jie, Michel Vorm and Kevin Wimmer has to start with the other six players, being a mix of backups and reserves.

London Bee’s Lucy Loomes has officially joined Tottenham Hotspur Ladies after completing the Women’s Super League 2 season. The 18-year-old striker has represented England at the Under-17 and now Under-19 levels. Lucy Loomes was part of England’s Under-19 in a 1-1 draw against Italy on November 4. That match against Italy was a preparation game — a send-off — for England ahead of the Women’s Under-19 Euro qualifiers where England takes on Sweden, Austria and Belgium for a place in the finals in Slovenia in July.

Spurs’ manager Karen Hills is obviously ecstatic about the signing: “This is a massive boost for the club,” said Hills, who now has three international players in the squad as Lucy joins Avilla Bergin (Northern Ireland) and Megan Wynne (Wales).

“Lucy is absolutely clinical in front of goal with a fantastic work rate and she’ll give us that additional bite in forward areas that we’ll need in the next four to six weeks.”
