Tottenham Hotspur Links: 10/27/15 Evening Edition
Tottenham Hotspur evening links for your reading enjoyment.
Hotspur HQ will be honest with you savvy readers out there. There should have been a morning edition of the Tottenham Hotspur Links but unfortunately it got bumped into an afternoon edition instead due to time constraints. Even if said afternoon edition of the daily links article featured two links, that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. In fact, it allows tonight’s evening post to have more stories for readers to enjoy. So let’s get to the news links down below! Note: These links are comprised of morning and afternoon stories, due to no Morning Edition and a light Afternoon Edition.
– Tottenham target, Charlie Austin, committed to Queens Park Rangers [via Daily Star]
At the time, when Tottenham were spending all of their resources on upgrading the defense and neglecting the striker position — which is still the case even now — and taking a mid-week sabbatical for reasons unknown. Charlie Austin would have been an appropriate signing from QPR to become Harry Kane’s backup. The Hoops would have been open to selling their striker for £15 million if any team met their demand for the 26-year-old. That was £10 million cheaper than Saido Berahino.
Moving on, Austin himself wanted to return to the Premier League where he had experienced success as the fourth best striker in the 2014-15 season with 18 goals, behind Diego Costa, Harry Kane and Sergio Agüero. However with QPR sitting in tenth place in the Football League Championship, Charlie Austin wants to remain with the club in hopes of helping them reach promotion once again and back into the Premier League. Consider this potential target off of the winter market in January.
– Andros Townsend is being linked to Newcastle United [via Chronicle Live]
Right off the bat, Chronicle Live is linking to The Sun about Tottenham manager allowing the 24-year-old winger to go out on loan in January. Two teams are being linked to the English international with Newcastle being one and Swansea City the other. Whether The Sun is correct or not, the fact of the matter is this. Andros Townsend is no longer considered a starter in Mauricio Pochettino’s offense, he most likely doesn’t have a role with this team either.

Townsend has spent more time as a substitute and starter in the Europa League and League Cup instead. Who could replace Townsend in a backup role behind Érik Lamela? Clinton N’Jie. He’s already earned plenty of substitution appearances as a right winger this season so it makes sense. In a long-shot-type-of-move, Tom Carroll has gotten some minutes as a right midfielder/winger this year as well. Depth isn’t an issue and it won’t be if Spurs get a replacement before the winter transfer window closes.
– Tottenham “could” lose Dominic Ball and Nathan Oduwa to Rangers on free transfers [via HITC]
This isn’t a silly article or even a stupid article, that’s a little bit harsh actually.

Rather, this is an interesting article that looks at two Spurs players who have expiring contracts. Obviously Tottenham will eventually renew Dominic Ball and Nathan Oduwa’s contracts but it’s a matter of when not if.
Or, it could actually be both questions. Should Tottenham resign them both? They are good, young, and talented players. But they’ll face a tough climb with the amount of players ahead of them.
They’re currently starters right now in a lower division, the Scottish Championship, but aside from getting first team experience. It’s highly unlikely that their loan deals will promote them straight into Mauricio Pochettino’s plans for next season. Let’s not forget that even if Tottenham renews Ball and Oduwa’s contracts they could head back to Mark Warburton’s team and play for Rangers again, but in the Scottish Premier League as soon as they get promoted at the end of the season. First team football and starters in Scotland, or backups and second team players in England?
