Tottenham Hotspur Links: 10/26/15 Morning Edition
It’s the start of a new week for Tottenham Hotspur links.
A couple of things before getting to the news. Before, there used to be a late morning and early afternoon edition smashed into one, followed by an evening edition. This happened because as the day wore on, more stories would be coming out, it made sense to post later rather than earlier. What didn’t make sense though was the obnoxious title for each article even if it was as accurate as it could be. So in order to streamline things much easier, there’ll only be three daily links post per day: morning, afternoon and evening.
Today’s morning edition is running late (as usual for more stories) but will be coming out earlier around 9:00 AM from now on — or that’s the hope at least — starting tomorrow. Afternoon editions will be posted in the early to mid-afternoon time frames, with the evening articles being posted between early to mid-evening time frames. Lastly, there may or may not be a weekly review of these daily links. Mainly because they’re coming out daily, a weekly review isn’t necessary. If a weekly review article pops up that means Hotspur HQ is still working on them, if not, then it’s being replaced by a daily update instead.
– Danny Murphy discusses Christian Eriksen’s importance for Harry Kane [via HITC]
Christian Eriksen is one of the most important players for Tottenham if they want to have success on a yearly basis. His position at left midfield against A.F.C. Bournemouth isn’t his natural position but he makes it work. Whoever ends up being the central attacking midfielder in Mauricio Pochettino’s 4-2-3-1 formation, not named Eriksen, will see the Danish international play out wide. If he’s able to continue his success like he has since day one, when arriving to White Hart Lane, and his form continues to improve even more, this can only benefit Harry Kane as the season wears on.
– Mousa Dembélé wants to score more goals, play in the #10 role [via Tottenham Hotspur’s official site]
As long as Mousa Dembélé is still a part of the 18 players selected for each match by Mauricio Pochettino it doesn’t matter which position he plays in. Although it will be very interesting to see where the Argentine manager fits Heung-Min Son into his plans once he returns from injury. Tottenham has been able to shift players around their midfield positions: attacking midfield trio or double pivot. Once Son and Nabil Bentaleb return from their injuries where they’ll be slotted into is something to watch out for.

In Heung-Min Son’s case, his role could vary on a per-match basis. As a left winger/striker, and the current 4-2-3-1 formation with a healthy Dembélé, in-form Eriksen and improved Érik Lamela playing so well. It would be hard to take any of them off even if Mousa Dembélé could technically be the odd man out. However his ability to maintain possession with his strength can’t go unnoticed and having someone who is able to bring that to an attacking midfield role when pushing forward into the heart of a team’s defense isn’t necessarily needed but would be welcomed.

A precautionary decision to leave Harry Kane out of the starting lineup against R.S.C Anderlecht in the Europa League this past Thursday was a sign of worry.
Nacer Chadli and Heung-Min Son were injured and a minor knock on Harry Kane meant that Clinton N’Jie would be the only healthy striker available.
Against Bournemouth with Kane wearing a heavy strapping on his right knee, while also playing a full 90 minutes and scoring a hat-trick, those worries could now be dissipating. Harry Kane believes that, come next week, he will fully fit and ready to go against a Tim Sherwood-less/new manager Aston Villa side.
– Tottenham features the youngest lineup on average this 2015-16 Premier League season [via London Evening Standard]
This should come as no surprise given Mauricio Pochettino’s preference to go with a youth movement over having a team full of established veterans or players in their primes. It’s a smart move as Tottenham will have a vast majority of their players for the next 6-8 seasons assuming that Spurs could hold onto them and not sell them off for a profit. Consider this, had Tottenham invested more in players above the age of 27, they would only be around for 3-4 seasons before moving on. Ever since Mauricio Pochettino came became Tottenham manager, he’s made sure that youth academy players and young players in their early 20s get a chance to play.
