After the end of the first international break last week and the conclusion of Sunderland versus Spurs — in which DeAndre Yedlin wasn’t allowed to face his parent club during his season-long loan. The Black Cats’ newest player, right-back and U.S. international Yedlin, has conducted his first Sunderland interview.

The 22-year-old Seattle native discussed different topics, most notably his first few days in the Academy of Light, his loan move and how it will help him. What position he’s comfortable in and learning from a couple of Sunderland players. Plus getting a recommendation about Sunderland from former Black Cats’ memeber, Jozy Altidore, despite his woeful seasons.

(Interview from Sunderland’s official website)

"“I’m very pleased [to be here] and my first couple of days have been great. All the guys have been very welcoming and the staff have been great so I’m excited to get started. I think I have a better opportunity to get playing time up here and it is Barclays Premier League football which is great for a young player like myself.I will bring hard work and effort to the team no matter what position I play and I will give it my all. I’ve played both right wing and right back and I can’t really say if I’m more comfortable in one or the other, but both are fun positions for me to play and I enjoy both so whichever the manager sees fit for me to play is the one I’ll play.I know Younès [Kaboul] a little bit better than I know Jermain [Defoe] but both have been great in making sure I’m settling in well and it’s been a great time so far. I did [speak to Jozy Altidore before joining]. He mentioned that it was a great club – obviously in his time football-wise up here he didn’t have the best but he said it was a great club with great people.”"

Obviously with Yedlin’s loan move being a season-long deal, Tottenham will be going with two right-backs the entire year, leaving them short at this position. Eric Dier’s current form at defensive midfielder, makes it unlikely that returns for a spot start at right-back anytime soon.

This position could be in serious jeopardy depending on Kyle Walker’s health because it’s unlikely that Kieran Trippier’s consistency of playing in over 30+ games per season will help out when partaking in domestic cups plus the Europa League.

Should this exact situation happen, DeAndre Yedlin must be recalled back to Spurs — assuming that he’s getting the playing time that he needs and is doing well in his starts.

If he’s not playing as much as should have after completing a deadline day move, then starting DeAndre Yedlin at right-back (if Kyle Walker is injured and Kieran Trippier is resting along with other starters) with no prior Premier League experience will be worrisome to the say the least.

Hopefully this isn’t the case and Kyle Walker remains healthy for the rest of the season and Yedlin gets plenty of opportunities to feature in Dick Advocaat’s starting eleven week in and week out unless it’s against Spurs which will happen at least one more time — the reverse fixture in the Premier League.
