Tottenham wants to add more players before the window ends.

With the imminent signing of Cameroon international, Clinton N’Jie, close to being finalized — nothing is official yet, but a £12 million fee has been agreed upon, allegedly. Mauricio Pochettino would be able to sign a player who brings immense pace to his squad and gives Tottenham another dimension to their attack.

Although, N’Jie is a center forward, he has seen more time as a winger due to Alexandre Lacazette occupying the main striker role. Because of a similar situation with Tottenham, this will continue upon Clinton N’Jie’s arrival at White Hart Lane.

What this means is, Pochettino must find an out-and-out striker and an experienced central/defensive midfielder; something that the Telegraph goes into briefly. That will give the Argentine coach three new players — one, which could happen sometime this week, hopefully.

Which position is more important remains to be seen in Mauricio Pochettino’s eyes. In one hand, Harry Kane has no backup in case of fatigue or injury. On the other hand, Nabil Bentaleb had a horrible outing against Manchester United.

Based on the Telegraph’s targets — only strikers — Javier Hernandez is the veteran while Saido Berahino is the young player. Both, however have good reasons to be signed by Tottenham before the transfer window closes.

Saido Berahino provides another pacey player like Clinton N’Jie, making it hard on defenses to stop both flanks easily. At the same time though, having Berahino not be a striker, but more as a winger, seems counterintuitive since that’s what Pochettino is signing him to be — Harry Kane’s backup.

Although the English international can play out wide, he should be best used up top alongside his England U-21 teammate in a 4-4-2 formation.

However when a potential starting eleven has three strikers on the pitch together (Kane, N’Jie and Berahino), who will be the backup striker to sub in when all of them are tired? Logically speaking, Saido Berahino is a fit, but at the same time he’s not if he starts.

Looking at Javier Hernandez, he is more of a super-sub and has excelled very well in that role with Real Madrid during his loan spell last season. Bringing him to White Hart Lane would make more sense because when Kane needs to be subbed off, a substitute striker is coming on.

Even if the Mexican international wants to start, his track record as a starter isn’t that good when compared to his substitution role. Tottenham should try to sign Hernandez first and if that fails then try to sign Berahino. If both options fail, N’Jie is naturally a striker-turned-winger, so he’ll revert back to a center forward.

As for the central/defensive midfielder that Tottenham needs. An experienced player should be signed so that Mauricio Pochettino wouldn’t have to rely on Nabil Bentalib, Eric Dier, Ryan Mason and Dele Alli for an entire season. One mistake proved costly already and made Spurs lose out on three points. Assuming that it won’t happen again with inexperienced players would be foolish.

Which experienced midfielder could be signed is unknown after Sven Bender’s current situation looking solved for the time being. No other name has been mentioned so this position is more of a question mark than at striker.
