Rumored Transfer News for Tottenham
More rumored targets are apparently on Tottenham’s radar, not surprising.
What will be surprising though, is if either player actually signs with Spurs.
So far, when it comes to trying to improve the offense, Tottenham can’t get past the initial/failed bid stage. Once they get to that point and their offer is rejected, Daniel Levy and/or Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t pursue it as much and moves on to their next target and repeats the same process once again.
While it worked well for the defense when they signed Kevin Wimmer, Kieran Trippier and Toby Alderweireld, adhering to the same strategy hasn’t paid off for the offense.
Perhaps a change in their plans to improve the offense should happen?
Anyway, onto the two latest names that Tottenham are linked to.
Clinton N’Jie
Obviously 21-year-old Cameroon international, Clinton N’Jie, makes a lot of sense to go out and sign. A young player who plays a position of need plus having the added bonus of playing out wide on either side as a left or right winger is great for flexibility reasons.
Although Get French Football News is reporting this story, the fact that the bid is worth only £7 million is way too low for a player who went on to have a good season last year: 33 appearances, 8 goals and 9 assists according to his Transfermarkt page.
Regarding the alleged bid, Transfermarkt values the Cameroon striker at €5 million (£3.5m) which isn’t too far off from the £7 million floating around. With that said, surely Olympique Lyon would ask for more money if they were in fact selling a player who is currently being compared to Cristiano Ronaldo, arguably 1A or 1B in many spectators eyes as the world’s best footballers alongside Lionel Messi.
If Tottenham signs Clinton N’Jie it’ll be a shrewd piece of business by Daniel Levy, but until a single offensive player is signed everyone will have to wait patiently with bated breath to see who the club signs next.
Josip Ilicic
It would seem that one source of information for this player is the Metro.

Now even if the Metro is reporting this transfer rumor — a grain of salt is needed of course — the possibility of signing the the 27-year-old attacking midfielder could still happen if this Telegraph article is true.
The Telegraph states that both Galatasaray and Fiorentina are interested in Vlad Chiricheș. There’s only one real interesting paragraph that stands out and this is it:
"“Galatasary are thought to be ready to bid around £5million on Chiriches, who cost Spurs £8.5m from Steaua Bucharest, while Fiorentina have targeted the Romanian to replace Stefan Savic, who has joined Atletico Madrid.”"
Ever since Stefan Savić moved to Atlético Madrid in a deal that sent Mario Suárez to Fiorentina, why not have Tottenham pull off their own kind of deal? If Daniel Levy is willing to accept a loss on the sale of Chiricheș to Galatasaray, a better offer would be sending the 24-year-old Romania to Italy for the Slovenian midfielder.
Just last year, Ilicic — like Clinton N’Jie — would produced a solid season by appearing in 34 games, scoring 10 goals and assisting 4 times based on his Transfermarkt page.
A swap deal such as this should be fair for both sides, and if not, then Fiorentina losses out on a center-back and Tottenham wins by offloading another unwanted player and receives a decent amount of £5 million to spend on some other player.
Getting Clinton N’Jie looks unlikely to happen, if Tottenham does sign him, then great, if not then Spurs will just move on. As for Josip Ilicic, this transfer rumor is possible and should be explored so long as a swap deal is possible.
Tottenham now have eighteen days left to finish improving their squad.
