Harry Kane Wins His Tottenham Spurs For October

facebooktwitterreddit

Harry Kane has topped the HotspurHQ polls for the month of October to win his Tottenham Spurs. He finished ahead of Hugo Lloris with Ryan Mason third.

Tottenham have played 3 games in the Premier League, two in the Europa League and one match in the Capital One Cup. In total 8 players finished in the top 3 places in the HotspurHQ polls for the matches played during October. Mauricio Pochettino has continued with his selection rotation with players for league games and a much changed team for European and Cup matches.

The HotspurHQ ‘Spurs’ awards for October are based on performances in the 6 games played. After each match the readers of our blog voted for the player who has been deserving of his ‘Spurs’. The player with the highest % votes cast in each match receives 3 points, second gets two and 3rd claims 1 point.

1st: Harry Kane

Harry Kane’s good form in the midweek games and when used as a substitute in league matches has seen him claim top spot in this month’s polls. He has played consistently, either as a striker or when playing in a deeper midfield role. He scored 5 goals during the month to take his tally to 8 goals for the season, making him Spurs leading goalscorer. With 6 Europa League goals and two in the Cup, all that’s missing from his collection is a Premier League goal. His consistent form and goalscoring suggests that he is deserving of a chance to show what he can do in the Premier League.

Harry Kane was voted  “Man of the Match’ after his hat-trick against Asteras Tripolis, finished second in the games against Besiktas and Brighton with an honourable mention for his play as a substitute in the defeat by Newcastle. Kane also performed well in his two games for the England Under-21 team, scoring the equaliser in the home leg against Croatia.

2nd: Hugo Lloris

Hugo Lloris has maintained his form through the month and topped the poll for his display against Partizan Belgrade and in defeat at Manchester City. He was third in the only league win against Southampton. In a month when questions have been asked of many of the Tottenham players, Lloris is recognised as the one top quality player in the team and while others have struggled, his form and performances have been outstanding as they have been since joining the club in 2012.

3rd: Ryan Mason

Ryan Mason has made an immediate impression on coming into the team. Having waited so long for the opportunity at White Hart Lane he has taken his chance well and topped the poll after last weekend’s defeat by Newcastle and was second in the match against City. At the Etihad Stadium, he was involved in much of Spurs best play and but for the goalkeeping of Joe Hart could have had at least two goals that afternoon. He has played with confidence and vision, constantly involved, looking for the ball and striving to make a telling pass. He has not been overawed by his sudden elevation into the first team.

Honourable Mentions

  • Roberto Soldado has continue to struggle in front of goal but fans have appreciated his all-round contribution in the team. He topped the poll for the Cup match against Brighton where he had two ‘assists’ and also struck the bar as well as bringing a couple of saves from the young goalkeeper. He was third in the Europa League match in Serbia.

More from Hotspur HQ

  • Christian Eriksen was criticised by his international manager but scored either side of the international break – topping the poll against Southampton and finishing second for his display at City.
  • Etienne Capoue has made the central defensive midfield role his own so far this season and his work was recognised by supporters in the matches against Southampton when he was second and against Asteras when he was third.
  • Erik Lamela with his ‘Rabona’ goal against Asteras was second in that game behind Harry Kane and his substitute appearance and breakthrough goal against Brighton earned him 3rd place.
  • Danny Rose was one of the few players to come out of the Newcastle defeat with credit, finishing second last weekend. His performances this season have shown greater consistency and on current form he is rightly keeping Ben Davies out of the team.

Congratulations to Harry Kane on winning his Tottenham Spurs for October
