Tottenham And Queen’s Park Rangers: Six Connections
By Logan Holmes
QPR Current Squad
Four current members of the QPR squad have also played for Tottenham.
Adel Taarabt
Adel Taarabt who scored the only goal at Loftus Road in Rangers’ Premier League win over Spurs in April, 2012 started his career in England with Spurs. He joined Rangers in March, 2009 on loan and after another season on loan joined permanently in 2010 to provide the inspiration as Rangers went on to win promotion. He was unable to be as effective in the Premier League but is still on the books of QPR although he spent last season on loan with Fulham and AC Milan.
Bobby Zamora
Bobby Zamora scored the Wembley goal which ensured Rangers return to the Premier League after one season’s absence. He was to be released but has remained at Loftus Road and came on as a substitute in last weekend’s home defeat by Hull City. Zamora joined Rangers in 2011 from Fulham.
Tottenham signed Zamora from Brighton in the summer of 2003 but he scored only one goal for Spurs in his brief time at White Hart Lane and joined West Ham as part of the deal which took Jermain Defoe to Spurs the following January.
Jermaine Jenas
Jermaine Jenas spent 8 seasons with Tottenham having signed from Newcastle in 2005. He was in the League Cup winning team of 2008 and created the goal for Jonathan Woodgate. He made 21 appearances for England and scored in Fabio Capello’s first match as England manager. Injury restricted him badly in his final seasons with Spurs and has again hampered him at QPR.
Stephen Caulker
Stephen Caulker joined Rangers in the summer from Cardiff. A product of the Tottenham Academy he spent a season on loan at Swansea and then was as a member of the Spurs squad. He made 29 appearances for Spurs and made his England debut. Twelve months ago he signed for Cardiff in search of guaranteed first team football. With the Welsh club being relegated, Caulker wanted to remain in the Premier League and made his QPR debut last weekend.
