1982 FA Cup Final
As mentioned earlier, Tottenham and Queen’s Park Rangers met in the 1982 FA Cup Final at Wembley. Tottenham were managed by Keith Burkinshaw and were attempting to retain the trophy won in spectacular style against Manchester City twelve months previously. On their way to that success in 1981 the two clubs had met in the 3rd Round. The first match at Loftus Road was scoreless but Spurs won 3 – 1 in the replay.
The Final in 1982, came at the end of a very long and exhausting season for Spurs. They played 66 matches that season as they battled for success on four fronts. They finished fourth in the League, lost in the League Cup Final to Liverpool and had been knocked out of the European Cup Winners’ Cup at the semi-final stage by Barcelona. The FA Cup was their last opportunity for silverware.
The first match was scoreless until extra time when Glenn Hoddle put Spurs ahead. Terry Fenwick who was to later join Venables at White Hart Lane levelled the scores and took the Final to a replay. Hoddle put Spurs ahead with a penalty early on after a foul on Graham Roberts. Tottenham held on for the rest of the match with Ray Clemence saving them on numerous occasions.
The 1982 win gave Tottenham their 7th FA Cup win.
