Tottenham Transfer News: Spurs Business For Next Fortnight?
By Logan Holmes
With the season one game old and the transfer window due to close in a fortnight the Tottenham transfer news continues apace with rumours and speculation on possible transfers in and out at Spurs.
Tottenham Transfer News
Andros Townsend – Southampton are reported to be interested in signing the Tottenham winger. Spurs, according to SkySports, have rejected an offer of £10m for Andros Townsend from the south coast club .
- On his showing as a substitute against West Ham, I would have thought that Mauricio Pochettino would be reluctant to sell Townsend at this time.
Morgan Schneiderlin – a number of media sources are reporting that Tottenham are to make a further bid for the Southampton and France international midfield player. Southampton have repelled all previous interest from Spurs and stood firm in the face of strong indications from the player that he wanted to leave. Schneiderlin played at Anfield on Sunday but Spurs are continuing their pursuit of the player who Pochettino knows well.
- If a deal is to be done, Tottenham will have to increase their offers to persuade Southampton to sell and that may have to include releasing a player who they are reluctant to sell as part of the deal – could it possibly be Andros Townsend?
In an update, the Sun and TalkSport are reporting that Southampton are to reject this third bid of £17m for Schneiderlin from Tottenham
Loic Remy – Spurs are reported by the Daily Express, to be favourites to sign Loic Remy from Queen’s Park Rangers for a fee of £10m. It suggests that negotiations are underway and a deal could be completed to enable him to play for Tottenham in Sunday’s derby between the two clubs at White Hart Lane.
- Spurs have been linked with Remy throughout the summer but he has been looking for a club in the Champions League. Both Liverpool and Arsenal have decided to look elsewhere with an £8m deal with Liverpool falling through when he failed his medical. According to BBC Sport, Harrry Redknapp has said that Remy doesn’t want to return to Newcastle where he spent a successful season on loan. If Remy is to leave Loftus Road, Tottenham would appear to be his only option but his salary demands are reported to be high. The Sun suggested that a deal could include Michael Dawson and cash while Redknapp would be interested in Townsend and Harry Kane.
Harry Redknapp said of Loic Remy,
"He didn’t want to go back to Newcastle which is a massive club, so unless it’s a club in the top seven I don’t think he’ll go."
Mattia Destro – The Daily Express are also reporting Tottenham interest in the Roma striker Mattia Destro in a straight swap deal for Roberto Soldado. The Italian club, however, are unconvinced by the Spanish striker and are taking time before coming to a decision.
The 23-year-old striker has made 5 appearances for Italy and scored one goal. He joined Roma in 2012 and has made 41 league appearances, scoring 19 goals. He developed through the Inter Milan youth system and joined Genoa in 2010. After a season he signed for Siena and then moved on the next year to Roma having scored 12 goals in 30 appearances that season.
- Spurs have been linked with a number of young strikers this summer. It is thought that they want to strengthen their striker-force by developing a younger player .

Vlad Chiriches – There is a report from Italy in the Corriere dello Sport that Roma looking to sign Vlad Chiriches as a replacement for Mehdi Benatia who is a target for Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester United. Of the options Roma have in mind, Vlad Chiriches would appear to be their first choice.
- Vlad Chiriches has yet to appear for Tottenham this season, missing the North America tour through injury. It has been reported that he has struggled to settle in England and would favour a move to Italy. If Tottenham can sign another central defender, although the transfer of Mateo Musacchio has gone very quiet, they may be prepared to release the Romanian captain.
The Villarreal manager has said recently,
"We expect definitive solution for this week. I believe Musacchio will stay with us but I cannot confirm this 100 per cent."
Benoit Assou-Ekotto – His future at Tottenham has been in doubt for some time. He doesn’t appear to have returned to Spurs for pre-season training with a photograph of him training alone in France. The Daily Mail is reporting that Tottenhamn are prepared to release BAE on a free transfer although he has a year remaining on his contract.
This is seen as part of Tottenham’s efforts to reduce the size of their squad. BAE spent last season at QPR and then went to the World Cup Finals with Cameroon. With Danny Rose signing a 5-year contract and Ben Davies moving from Swansea, BAE’s chances of returning to the White Hart Lane team were greatly reduced.
- This news is not unexpected as Assou-Ekotto hasn’t played for Spurs since 2012-13 when he made only 22 appearances due to injury.
Memphis Depay – Tottenham are also reported by the Daily Mail to be renewing their interest in the PSV Eindhoven and Holland winger, Memphis Depay. The young player has had a very impressive start to the season scoring twice in the first league game.
A Dutch football writer, Elko Born, has tweeted,
- If Tottenham were to complete the signing of Depay, it would bring pace to the side, a quality which is so important in modern football.
The Tottenham transfer news has revisited players who have been linked with Spurs for much of the summer. The club appears to have been keen to sign certain player who are of interest to Pochettino so may be making a final effort to bring some of those deals to a conclusion. There is continuing speculation in the media over which players will leave White Hart Lane in the coming weeks so Tottenham are facing a busy fortnight until the close of the transfer window.
