Are Tottenham to sign players from France as Mauricio Pochettino attempts to strengthen his team ahead of the new season?

Reports in the media suggest that Tottenham could be considering moves for three players who were in the France team at the World Cup. They have also been reported to have interest in other players who are currently with clubs in France.

Tottenham to sign players from France

Morgan Schneiderlin

The latest player wanting away from Southampton is French midfield player Morgan Schneiderlin. A report in L’Equipe, reported by the Gazette, suggests that Tottenham are interested in Schneiderlin who was called into the France World Cup squad in Brazil. Schneiderlin joined Southampton in 2008 from Strasbourg and has made 231 appearances for the club in all competitions. In his first season at St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton dropped into League One but Schneiderlin helped them in their immediate return to the top flight in 2012 and made 69 Premier League appearances in the last two seasons.

Schneiderlin made his international debut in a friendly prior to the World Cup and played in the last group match against Ecuador. He is 24 years old and his signing could lead to the departure of some of Tottenham’s midfielders.

Antoine Griezmann

With Pochettino’s connections to Southampton and Morgan Schneiderlin, there may be a possibility for a transfer to happen if the Saints are prepared to sell. Less likely, though is the suggestion in a tweet by @Talking THFC, of media reports of Tottenham preparing a bid to sign another French star, Antoine Griezmann, from Real Sociedad.

In a report at the end of the season, the Daily Express had named Spurs as one of a number of clubs interested in Griezmann.

Hugo Lloris praised Griezmann following his performances for France in Brazil. His comments were reported on London24, Lloris saying,

"He is a target for many top teams at European level, so he will have many choices."

The 23-year-old winger has been with Real Sociedad since 2005, coming through their youth system before breaking into the first team in 2009. A regular in the team since then he has made 201 appearances in all competitions, scoring 52 goals. He made his debut for France last February and has 8 appearances and scored 3 goals.

Loic Remy

Remy has been a target for Tottenham since the end of last season. An earlier report suggested that Tottenham had reached agreement with Queen’s Park Rangers but that the player was waiting to see what other offers he might receive over the summer. He is thought to be a target for Arsenal who have other players in their sights, but Remy is keen on a move to the Emirates with the prospect of Champions League football.

Now that the player has returned from the World Cup, and with the Final on Sunday, clubs may be in a better position to clarify their needs and complete transfers. According to a report by French broadcaster TF1 on Sunday, Spurs are preparing a bid for Remy. @AddictedtoSpurs tweeted:

More from Tottenham News

As reported previously, Tottenham have been reported to have an interest in the Ivory Coast and Toulouse right-back, Serge Aurier. He played in all of the Ivory Coast’s games in Brazil.

Divock Origi

Tottenham were immediately linked with Divock Origi with his impressive displays for Belgium in the World Cup. He scored the winning goal against Russia and displaced another Tottenham target, Romelu Lukaku, in the team. It appeared that Liverpool’s summer spending was to continue with the transfer of Origi from Lille.

The 19-year-old striker has already turned down Tottenham as he wants Champions League football. Liverpool, however, plan to loan him back to Lille and Tottenham, according to a report in the Mirror, are trying to persuade Origi to come to White Hart Lane with the chance of Premier League football next season.
