Napoli, Roma Cast Envious Eyes At Tottenham Players
By Logan Holmes
Reports from Italy suggest that a number of Tottenham players are on the wish-list of Napoli and Roma as potential signings during this summer’s transfer window.
Napoli are reported to be interested in the Tottenham midfield player, Sandro, and central defender Jan Vertonghen. Roma have been linked wit Mousa Demble.
Sandro
Sandro has been a long-term target for Napoli who showed interest during the January window but with the Brazilian international injured, nothing came of it at that time. It was a very difficult season for Sandro who took longer to recover from the injury sustained in January, 2013 and having battled back into the first team, scoring his only goal of the season in early December against Manchester United, he was injured two weeks later in Andre Villas-Boas’ final game against Liverpool.
I’m not injured
On recovering from that injury he failed to impress Tim Sherwood and spent much of the second half of the season on the bench and showed his displeasure with a very public spat with the manager when he wasn’t included in the squad for the game against Fulham, pointing out that he wasn’t injured. He started the final game against Aston Villa and if Rafa Benitez has it way at Napoli, that could be Sandro’s last Tottenham appearance.
Since the end of the season there have been comments from Sandro’s agent about the player’s future and Goal.com are reporting that Napoli are prepared to offer £9.7m for Sandro but that Tottenham are looking for over £11m for their midfielder.
Tottenham are over-burdened with central midfield players but Sandro is a big favourite with Spurs supporters and there are other players the fans would prefer to see leaving White Hart Lane.
Jan Vertonghen
After a good debut season at Tottenham, the Belgian international defender was a huge disappointment in his second year at White Hart Lane. He looked less than happy under both AVB and Sherwood and was out for a lengthy period in mid-season before his season came to an early end with an injury sustained when he limped off in defeat at Liverpool at the end of March.
Now fully recovered, he is with the Belgian World Cup squad but there remains uncertainty about his future plans. With Tottenham again failing to make the Champions League there has been speculation that Vertonghen could push for a move away from Tottenham and transfer talk of Napoli’s interest could fuel such thoughts.
Napoli are thought to be interested in signing Vertonghen and the Daily Express are reporting that the Italian club are prepared to include the Macedonian winger Goran Pandev as part of the deal.

Like Vertonghen, Mousa Dembele is in the Belgium World Cup squad after a disappointing and injury-plagued season. Dembele played little football in the second half of the season following the appointment of Tim Sherwood. A regular under AVB, he failed to impress Sherwood and was out with injury for long periods.
According to a report in the Mirror, Roma are interested in signing Dembele but with their valuation of around £8m, Tottenham are unlikely to consider that as an acceptable offer.
Etienne Capoue
Capoue had a disappointing season in England with injury restricting his opportunity to play regularly. Napoli were also interested in the French international in January and with Tottenham apparently prepared to sell him, having included him in a proposed deal for the Sevilla left back, Alberto Moreno as reported by the Daily Mail, Napoli might renew their interest.
