Vlad Chiriches Wins His Tottenham ‘Spurs’ In October
By Logan Holmes
Eleven players have earned a place in the HotspurHQ Tottenham ‘Spurs’ awards for the month of October. Vlad Chiriches has finished in top place having impressed since getting a starting place after the international break at the beginning of the month.

After each match the readers of our blog have the opportunity to vote for the player who has been deserving of his ‘Spurs’. Eleven players have been placed in the top three on at least one occasion – the player with the highest % votes cast in each match receives 3 points, second gets two and 3rd claims 1 point.
Vlad Chiriches – 1st
Chiriches impressed in his early games in Europe and a Cup tie when I suggested that he could be pushing for a place in the team for the midweek games. The unexpected home defeat to West Ham and the continued absence of Danny Rose at left back created an opening for him in central defence when, as happened in similar circumstances last season, Jan Vertonghen moved to full back. He finished 2nd in the poll after the win over Anzhi topped the poll for the Europa League game against FC Sheriff and the league win over Hull. He has shown consistency this month with an enthusiasm in his play both in defence and moving forward into attack.
Andros Townsend – 2nd
Andros Townsend [Photo: Jav The_DoC_66]October has been quite a month for Andros Townsend. He was the overwhelming winner of the poll after the defeat to West Ham with 60% of the votes. he then starred for England before returning to finish second against Villa when he scored his first Premier League goal for Spurs. he was also second in last weekend’s win over Hull when he finished the match with his wrist bandaged after going head-first into the photographers’ pot. That fall resulted in him breaking to bones in his wrist but he returned to play the final minutes after being off the pitch for eight minutes getting attention.
Sandro – 3rd
Sandro [Photo: Jav The_DoC_66]Sandro also impressed in the midweek games in September forcing his way into AVB’s starting eleven for the league games. He started his first Premier League since January at Villa Park and his all-round display earned him top spot in that poll. He was second for the match in Moldova and has the impressive record that Spurs haven’t conceded a goal in any game while he has been on the pitch this season.
Last month Lewis Holtby topped the poll with Sandro third. Both have moved into AVB’s weekend team with Chiriches also making the step up. the competition for places throughout the team means that no-one can relax as their is always a player capable of replacing them in the team. No-one is safe as Mousa Dembele and Christian Eriksen have discovered.
Holtby topped the poll for the first match of October in Russia while Erik Lamela impressed in the Cup game against Hull to finish first. Paulinho finished second in the game against West Ham while Harry Kane with his goal and penalty was second in the Cup against Hull.
Honourable mentions go to Dembele against Anzhi, Roberto Soldado for the Villa match, Gylfi Sigurdsson for the Cup game against Hull and Vertonghen who gained recognition for his displays against Sheriff and Hull in the League.
The competition for November’s awards starts on Sunday against Everton. Five crucial games during the month which will go a long way to determining Tottenham’s season.
Thanks to everyone who votes in the polls – I greatly appreciate your support and interest. Enjoy the games next month. COYS!
