According to recent reports, two Spanish clubs are looking to sign a Tottenham player discarded by Ange Postecoglou during the January transfer window.

Tottenham’s forgotten man Sergio Reguilón looks set for a January exit, with two European clubs reportedly ready to swoop in and offer him a fresh start.

The Spanish left-back, who hasn’t featured at all under Ange Postecoglou this season, appears to be firmly out of the manager’s plans and faces an uncertain future in north London.

The 27-year-old, whose contract with Spurs expires in the summer, has spent the entire campaign on the sidelines.

With no pathway back into the first team, a mid-season departure is becoming increasingly likely as Tottenham aim to trim their squad and avoid losing him for nothing in a few months’ time.

Leading the race for Reguilón’s signature is Sevilla, where the defender enjoyed a stellar loan spell during the 2019/20 season.

His performances that season were key to the club’s Europa League win and left a strong mark on the Andalusian side.

Sevilla are eager to bring him back, viewing him as an experienced and familiar asset who could slot seamlessly into their setup.

Although Sevilla would prefer to wait until the summer to snap him up on a free transfer, their hand may be forced by growing interest from other clubs.

The lure of returning to a team where he found considerable success could be appealing for Reguilón as he looks to reignite his career.

However, Sevilla face competition from La Liga rivals Getafe, who have emerged as a strong contender for a January move.

A move to Getafe could give Reguilón the chance to get back on the field quicker, something that would appeal to a player looking to regain his form.

For Tottenham, a January deal would be the ideal outcome.

The club reportedly hopes for a bidding war between the interested parties to secure a transfer fee, rather than watching Reguilón walk away for free in the summer.

With the defender’s time at Spurs effectively over, the club sees this as a chance to recoup some value and streamline their squad for the second half of the season.

Reguilón longs for more playing time

Last season, he played an important role at Brentford in the Premier League, appearing twice in SofaScore’s Team of the Week. Here’s a brief overview of Reguilón’s 2023/2024 season:
